I'm sure glad I just purchased a Lakewood scatter shield for the Keisler to help if this ever occurs.

I did that in a 68 Road Runner with a 440.  Pieces went through the dash and broke the windshield.  I have done it with automatics also.  I will not run a powerful motor in front of an automatic without a transmission blanket.  I have scars on my right leg from the burns I recieved when my 727 blew while going into second gear.  My buddy lost his 727 and it broke his foot.  When these things go off it is just like exploding a gernade.  You have to protect yourself.

dumb question #.........I lost count.  :clueless:

Can you add the scattershield to a 4-speed without pulling the tranny?

I'm guessing not...

No.  It is a replacement blowproof bell housing. I do know some people who add a transmission blanket to the body and then run the blow proof bellhousing also.  You never can be too safe.

Thats why I don't side step the clutch. ;)  It saves tires and more/most importantly, my legs.  Going from a 10 or 15 mph roll is more than okay with me.

OK, I'm a little confused here. What is the difference between a blastshield, blanket and scatter shield? I have a Lakewood scatter shield (pressed steel) bellhousing. Is there also another item I can get for protection in the form of a "blanket"? Is a blanket something that welds/bolts/? to the tunnel of the underside?

A scattershield or blowshield is a steel piece that replaces the bellhousing on a manual trans or is bolted over the bellhousing area on an automatic.A blanket is made of some layers of flexible material that wraps/straps around the trans-usually done with automatics. They also have bolt on steel shields for the trans body area.
