Drove my car for the first time in 32 yrs
« on: July 03, 2007 - 12:44:05 PM »
It has been a very good day for me today. I finally got to drive my car for the first time. It has set up in Death Valley Ca. since 1975 stripped to the hull and sun dried. It was never out of the area since it was built in La.
I had the car shipped to my home in Alabama on june 24 2006. So it has taken me a year to put this car back together to where it moves on it's own now. So now it is off to get painted and the chrome and stuff put on.  I drove it on my dead end dirt road and for only a half mile. But it was enough to release all the tention that had been built up in me since I started to assemble the car. Every item had to be touched and worked on to some degree. Even the 1970 carbs had to be torn down and rebuilt, engine built, front end, inside and out.

For those of you who don't know of my car, its a 1970 Barracuda. The only item I was missing when I got the car was the original 318 and the 4 speed. I did manage to get a 70 e body 4 speed, but went with a 440 6 pack engine in place of the 318.

Here's a few options this car had

Paint   fc7
Interior  all black with buckets and console
6 way seat
rallye gauges
front rear am radio
non a/c tinted windows
rallye rims
323 sure grip
dual chrome mirrors
M46 side quarter scoops
Pistol grip 4 speed

My wife said she took a couple of pictures, I will try to see what she got and post some if anyone cares to see the car.

I'm just happy it finally runs and drives on it's own....ALAN

Now that is cool!

But, like was said before...

 :useless:

Especially once the paint is done... the m46 side scoops with the black bottom of the car really looks sharp!

I'm waiting on my wife to download the pictures. She just made me move over 400 books out of our library and move the bookshelves 5 ft. What a task. So now she's making lazagna for supper, when it's done, I will post what she took. I am thinking I should chain the engine down. The hood is off right now and I can see the engine move some from the torque.

I like the engine combo i built for the car. Seems to be fairly snappy for a cruiser.

68 440 block
906 heads with 214/181 valves
kieth blacks .010 in the hole
.019 shim head gaskets
comp 275 xe hydraulic
Factory 70 440-6 carbs and intake
70 ebody factory hp v code manifolds
6 pk exhaust pipes 2.5 from y1 and the mufflers and tail pipes are from accurate
70 340 e body 4 speed
323 rear with suregrip right now

Idles fantastic and responds at the lightest touch to the throttle.

But yes it is a factory 70 barracuda 318 4 speed car when original. Fender tag says it too :2thumbs:

That's very cool you were able to drive it in such a long time.  I have yet to drive my Challenger, so my completion of it will be one to remember.

That is great.  :2thumbs: I got my cuda back on the road late last summer after sitting for about 21 years in the garage. It's like having a new car all over again after such a long time. I'm sure your going to have a blast and if your like me its going to be real hard not to keep your foot in the throttle all the time. Have fun and drive the wheels off it.  :burnout:

they made a 318 with a 4 speed in 1970?

Apporoximately 705 1970 Barracudas were built for the US with the 318 / 4-speed combination.
