the fender tag reads

i don't know what any of it means??

trailer tow package in a ragtop is pretty rare

build it the way you want, save the #'s engine, it should stay with the car.

With the towing package the car should have a sure grip unit.

Not neccessarily....package includes 3.23 8 3/4 rear, HD brakes, HD stop lamp switch, HD turn signal flasher, high capacity fan, max cooling package, aux trans cooler, HD suspension, HD wheels and optional tires.

I owned a factory Fc7 383 2 bbl barracuda ragtop with tow package. It had the broadcast sheet...no sure-grip.

i bought a 1970 cuda convertible a year ago i was told on the ebay auction that it was origionally a 318 car but now had a 340 in it.well it turns out it doesn't have a 340 its a 318 what do i do?? is this against the law???   :pullinghair:

Yeah, that's fraud

That whole 318/340 trick is the oldest one in the book.  Does your car have a 2bbl or a 4bbl carb?
I you ever go looking again a quick reference is no 340s ever came with a 2bbl and no 318s ever came with a 4bbl until 1978.  Not having the 340 doesn't hurt you though as the value of your car comes from the convertable option and not the engine as you probably know.
I bet having the original 318 makes it worth ten dollars more as it sits but having the 340 would have been better for selling to make money towards the HEMI.  As said before you do have to keep the 318 in storage but go crazy on whatever else you want  ;)

no hitch provided, just means the car had some HD equipment to handle towing duties.  My car had extra holes drilled in the bumper..obvious they were for a bumper mount hitch...probably towed a pop-up camper or some other lite trailer.

I agree with the others, build it the way you want it.  That is what I did with my numbers matching 318 Challenger.  You can always put the 318 back in it later.

I got to say by the options on your ragtop that its a pretty cool car even without a Hemi. Its even better that its numbers matching. It depends on how much you really want the Hemi. It would be a great driver with the 318 and easy to maintain. Now days there are more Hemi cars on the road because of all the clones, my 71 Cuda included. It was a 383 car and I still have the 383 in the garage but the hemi does look pretty awesome sitting in there.

What is it that you're looking for with the Hemi? The wow factor or the power factor or both?

Its a tough call. You could always switch it back but just having a 70 drop drop Barracuda is pretty nice!

Make sure you have the 20-30 k set aside so you can make sure you get it finished up right if you do it.

To the original question, yes, it was misrepresented. Whether or not you want to press the issue will come down to how much money are you willing to throw at a suit compared to the potential to collect should you actually win. Chances are you can build a hemi clone for less money than it will take to win a case like this, especially if you are dealing with interstate commerce and out of state attorneys.

As far as converting it, even a cloned hemi vert is going to be more valuable than an original, # matching, 318 vert, no matter what the options. Look at how many people ask about Hemi conversions. It is still the baddest dog on the porch.

You would have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they did know the motor was a 318 and they said it was a 340 in order to intentionally deceive you.  Then you would need to be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt what the damage was to you by their claiming the motor was a 340 instead of a 318.  In other words it isn't worth it.  You have a nice car; enjoy it.  Either way you decide to go with it , post pics as you do it.  We like pics.
