DMV is so stupid
« on: July 03, 2007 - 09:25:59 PM »
Today I went down to finally finish the paperwork on my plum crazy A66 Challenger that I bought back in February (the one that is wrecked really bad in the front). I told the lady at DMV that I wanted to non-op the car because well it is wrecked and wont be on the road for more than a year, cuz I have to finish the cuda and I'm moving, but she said because it was a lein sale I had to register it. So now I have plates and registration tags good til March of next year. How stupid can you be. Oh well, it is better then them giving me more garbage to fill out and hoops to jump through.

I would guess they want it registered due to the wholesalers business. Flippers.

How about another picture with that new plate on the front. Also send it to the lady at DMV. :naughty:

Turn the tags back in and get a credit. Say "I took the car off the road for repair work", you don't want to have to pay for insurance after the first 30 days are up.

If the car has a lein the lender will probably require insurance regardless. Vehicles with a lein must be tracked through the state for liabilty pruposes - drop the lein and I bet the DMV won't care one bit how you title it.

California is funny. Since this is the first time that I registered the car, I do not have to provide proof of insurance.

Not for nothing, but I'd keep it insured. If nothing else through Hagerty, I'm pretty sure they will insure project cars. I have my barracuda and challenger both insured through them even though the challenger is apart on a rotisserie. Less than $200 each per year and I have them insured at 25 and 40K. You never know if something might happen moving a car from place to place on a trailer, shop burns down, theft, vandalism, etc. Plus it satisfies having insurance and is very cheap!

Here's a consideration, buy another Mopar and transfer the plates to that car, then when your project is done just get another set of plates. I'd say that was suficient logic to go out and buy another muscle car.

When I went to tranfer the title of my car they tried to pull the same stunt on me. I had a lien on it too. I said look lady I can't even drive it it doesn't run and I really don't want to spend the money on plates and tabs on top of the tax (4th time tax has been payed on the same car but thats a different discussion) I told her it came home on a trailer, which it did. Then shes like oh that changes everything. I guess if I could have driven it home it I would have had to buy plates and tags.
