    Gurragas: It's attitudes like that that give us bad names.....leave the child bashing talk to them, we're better than that. I could name several Jap cars that would leave rubber in all gears both 15 years and 30. Thought they are not as desirable to most as Mopars are people do like them, just like people collect stamps, cats, teeth, it's not for everyone.

    Jap cars are reliable in stock form and usually under modification, no leaks, no breakages and usually of better quality. May hurt to hear that for many Americans but it's the truth.......American car brands are making their way back though. But IMO they will never climb to #1, Japanese just have far too much tech up their sleeves and Europeans having too much class. Having said that, give me ANY big brand American Muscle car over any of the above, ANY day of the week.....4 out of 5 of our cars are American. Just plain cool.

    I remember those hot summer nights that started by making a few circuits around the local cruise strip. The car was a black 71 Cuda running a 67 440 HP engine, 12.5 to 1 pistons, solid lift cam and a 850 holly. The slicks were in the trunk of a friends car with the floor jack and the tools. We'd look for some new cars or strangers for a race that didn't know about the Cuda and we'd try to get at least $100.00 of more out of them. Once it got late or should I say early in the morning we'd hit our make shift drag strip where the slicks and solid motor mounts had their work cut out for them. Then came the light, the run, the torque, the sound of the motor coming in through all the open windows, and trying to keep the car in a straight line and the front wheels on the ground. It was a combination of all that which makes me think of the muscle car. Nothing else is there for me, its kind of like comparing Lynyrd Skynyrd to Fifty Cent, a different thing, a different era, the latter will never be the same no matter what.

      :iagree:  Your story brings back memories for me.   :bigshades:  I spent many, many nights on the prowl for new prey.  I had a couple of Mopars to take care of business.  The 1st was a 340 Dart with several mods.  High 13 second car.  The other was a '68 Hemi roadrunner with many mods by Barnette Racing.  Not sure what that car would run for sure, because it spun the tires the first 1/8 mile.  I learned how to feather the throttle and get all I could out of the polyglas tires.  Very fast car and never lost a street race with it.  Now I have the Beast.  Probably 30 years too late for much serious street action, but it's still fun to drive and have the young guns look at it in wide eyed wonderment.  They aren't sure what it is, but they can tell it's something mean......     :cooldancing:

     :cheers: Those were good times! Sounds like you had some cool cars too! My brother is a big "A" body Cuda man. He ran a fast 68 notchback with a built 440-6 in it. I managed low 12's in the 71 but he broke into the 11's with that A body Cuda. The Beast is killer!

    I remember one night in the early 80´s when i had a camaro -68 whit a 327 and race aginst whatever who will race, i stan whit a redlight when the earth begin to shake, this black monster came up beside me and hit the throttle one time, i just look forward and when the light turn green i took a right turn and sneek away, but i must say that was that moment who make me in love whit mopar cars.

    Here is that black monster, the owners name was Dan Malm.

    I love stories like that. One buddy of mine had a '73 Camaro that we thought was fast. Then another buddy got a '68 Camaro 327 and we thought that was really fast.
    Then another friend showed up with a 'CUDA340 that he bought from his brother in law.
    No contest
    That 'CUDA was in a different class then the chebbies and it just ate them for lunch

    I'll be willing to bet the kid has never even cooked rice....much less been behind the wheel of a muscle car...

    Have you even known of a Muscle car owner  to aspire to own a Honda...to cruie in...

    a daily driver for gas milage I can see...to devote your savings into a fiberglass, alum can is entirely different.

    i too would have to agree that these ricers belong in padded rooms. I have met a few that after one cruiz with me have changed their mind on Muscle Cars and they have said that if I wasnt around, they would have stayed the typical ricer. Attached is a photo of my buddies Ricer, that yes, i regretably built for him. 350 HP though so i cant really complain. its always great when you can get into a ricers head and get them to challenge their own belifes. I guess that makes me a ricer CHALLENGER!! te he he

    I really respect SOME of the ricers out there that aren't worried so much about plastic facias and goofy looking tail-lights, but try to get the maximum amount of horsepower out of small motors.  Personally I would never touch a jap car, but I've seen volvo 850Rs modified to make 400+ horsepower!!

    But...I do believe that NOTHING can replace raw power of a well built V8.  Its really cool seeing the daily driver you have burn rubber like that, but nothing sounds, feels, or goes like a V8 :2cents: :burnout:

    But see...they are hotrodders.. they hot rod what they have... they would hotrod anything they could.

    Ricers use Fart box mufflers, decals on 50-90% of the car, wings that make Petty cringe, etc... and only get into imports...

    It's pretty funny sometimes where I work as a mechanic back in the states. I will have ricers who's cars I am scheduled to align come in with horrible tire wear wondering why their new tires are toast(lowered and modded suspensions and heavy cornering usage). Aside from the tire wear, a lot of them start talking up their vehicle and all the mods they have done to it. They show me the motor with its colorful little wire covers and aftermarket aircleaners and such. I just have to try and be polite. I'm like "Mmm hmm....yeah...that's cool." A few guys in our shop are all over these cars. After the owners have left with their ricers, and the guys mention stuff about it I just have to laugh. I tell them you can't polish a turd. I admit some of these actually do have a lot of performance parts and doing well in the quarter mile. But like a lot of you said, when you can push a full steeled body that's a lot heavier down the strip with equally impressive or better times, that's a lot more impressive to me. And I just don't get how ricers can think their anemic go kart sounding motors can compare to the sound of a healthy V8. I guess I'll never "get it" and thank God for that.
