New Charger/73 Challenger
« on: July 06, 2007 - 07:35:33 AM »
Is it just me or does the new Charger's grill area resemble the grill of the 72-74 Dodge Challenger.  From a design perspective I wonder why was this done?  Although I love my 73 everyone knows that the 70-71 Challenger are the most desirable cars.  Why was not the grill made to resemble these years.  I wonder if this design could be regarded as a "tribute to the 72-74 challenger?  Easy guys I know I am dreaming.  Any thoughts?

Funny you should mention that. I have a new charger Grille sitting right  in front of my 73 CHally grille. They are NEARLY IDENTICAL IN SIZE!

If you remove the upper trim ring lip from the front header panel, you can fit the grille with minor modification. The only touble is that the lower corners are radiused.

I WILL post pics when I reach that point.

Best regards,

It is just a common design that fits well with the layout of automotive front ends. It can be found on dozens of other cars. A few that come to mind are some toyota trucks, some fiats, some buicks. Although if the 72 Challenger and 05 Charger are that close in dimension that they could interchange with minor trimming, that is somewhat odd.

I guess it all depends on your perspective.  FWIW, the new Charger does look good in a rear view mirror.

Yeah, it's not a bad looking car until you walk around to the side and see a second door! :horse:

Kinda what I was thinking too.

The Charger grille seems waaay to tall compared to the sad mouth grille.  Seems like there would need to be more than just "minor modifications"  :dunno:
