Back from Carlisle
« on: July 06, 2007 - 08:02:07 PM »
Well, I'm back home from Carlisle. I posted some info about Dons Cuda on the "CudaGuy project" thread.

The weather was fantastic, but pretty hot. The place was packed, and the cars were just phenomenal. Sometimes, I am just amazed at the prices that people put on things. One guy has a ripped up set of 73 Challenger seats, and he wants $100 for the pair. Another guy, has a set of ripped up 73 Challenger seats marked at $600. Go figure. Car prices were the same. A few were good, most were rediculous. (Like the guy who dropped a Hemi in a 71 Road Runner, and was trying to get $75k out of it).

I had a great time at the CC tent. These forums are so anonymous and it was really cool to actually get to meet the people behind the names. Everyone is even more wonderful in person, and it makes it feel even more like family. I just wish everyone could have gone. Wasn't hard to locate Mopar Clown, cause you could see him a mile away. BTW, 4cruizin makes a mean chilidog.

I must apologize to everyone that I met, though, because I met a lot of people, and I am absolutely terrible with names, so even though I remember the person, I may not remember their name. I've always had that problem, I just can't remember names. Funny because I don't have trouble remembering numbers or other stuff, just names. Guess it's just a brain defect or something like that, but I can almost guarantee that if I meet you, I won't be able to remember your name two minutes later.

Hey Jeryst,
Thanks for the info. Sounds like an awesome time.  :woo: I wish I could have been there. Glad you got to meet some of the folks. I would have liked to have put some of the names with faces as you did!!  :clapping: Maybe I'll make it next year!!  Sound kinda disappointing for a poor man that's looking to score some parts!!  :swear:I guess there were some deals out there if you took the time to do the hunting. I guess that's what makes it fun!! :2thumbs:

If you're up for a challenge, you can definitely find the great deals still.  I built a mint '71-'74 black console for my Challenger for less than $140 (others were listed for $180-$200 & being sold at those prices) as I sifted the bins and ground for the right part until I had a complete assembly.  I did the same for my A/C lower dash piece. (In fact I had someone offer me twice the price I paid for it while walking back to the C-C tent in '05.)

Assuming that you can remember friends and family members names your problem is actually common.
Being in Sales remembering names is important. What you have to do is "say" the new name back out loud ("Nice to meet you Jim") right after being introduced to someone. Then remember the other people you already know better with the same name (your cousin Jim). Link the two. If you just hear the name and then start talking about other things...most people won't recall the new name.

Got back from Carlisle around 10:00 pm. Man, it was hot and I don't mean the deals on parts. My wife and I walked thru the swap meet area for 7 hrs. and I really didn't get to look for everything I needed. I did finally get my front & rear seat covers and parcel shelf cover from Legandary. They even honored a 10% coupon from the Mopar thing @ Englishtown back in June after it expired on 6/2. Sales guy Brian took care of it for me. (thanks). I also got a few other items from some other vendors. I did notice that some of these people selling used parts think they have gold.
Well, by the time I got to walk around and go thru the mfg.area then look at the some of the cars (which I only blew thru the E-Body area) between the hot weather and running out of time, I stopped by to say hello at the C-C.Com tent , there wasn't too many of you guys around. I did meet The Cuda Guy & 4cruisin for a short time and a couple other folks. (4cruisin glad you got your Cuda together and running good, by the way very Nice Cuda).  Also, The Cuda Guy, nice to meet you too and be safe on your next tour of duty coming up.
Next year I will bring my Cuda and spend a lot less time & money by the swap area and meet more of you & enjoy the whole deal more. Vin........................

You should have come by my swap meet area.  I was selling things cheap.
Sorry I didn't get to meet many of you at the cc.com tent, as I was trying to sell stuff.  I did see Mopar clown at the swap meet area.  You couldn't miss him or his "motorhead" freind. lol
Like Street said there were some deals there.  I also got a good deal on a console,  $90 for a '70 console, but it needs some work.  I also saw a '71 340 4 speed Cuda yellow with billboards for $19,000, and a '70 Challenger convertible for under $30,000.

I picked up some NOS 70 challenger bezels today, for what I thought was a good price.  I got there late, well today at 7am, didnt see a cc.com tent... was pretty much in the swap meet area all day.  Autobody specialists got some of my money too, but thats for my rusty junk.

Although lots of over priced junk, I actually saw more fair prices this year than last year.  Missed out on a nice 70 challenger door for 75 and another pair for a good price.
