according to the Dealership Data Book, that package was not available on the R/T or SE models.

Was the A66 Code available in 1971.  I have a book that says yes but have seen on this forum that the answer is no?

I know it came with a big block, but what other differences were there with the R/T package vs. a base Challenger with say a 340?

Rallye dash and badges.  Only performance stripe option was the butt stripe. Early A66 cars had larger tires than the R/T.

lots of answers to this, but basically you got a faster, better handling package that looked a little different(better) than the base line cars....it included upgrades to the suspension, interior, usually a different hood, or choice of hoods, paint and stripe packages that weren't available on base cars....wheels and tires were also upgraded for the performance cars.....they were all dressed up and ready for racing

Interiors except for the dash was the same.

All 340 4-barrels's in 1970 came with the A66 performance package. Which had the bulge hood, heavy duty brakes, bumble bee strip, E60X15 inch raised white letter tires, heavy duty suspension, Scat Pack (Bee) decal, wheel lip moulding is deleted, and collapsible spare tire. For the most part looked like a R/T but wasn't.

UTHUSTLER, yes that's exactly how it was ordered by the dealer (it sat in the dealer showroom until like Feb. '72 before being purchased)!

not until 1971

i believe that the 340 was also an R/T option, i think that mostly it had to do with the heavy duty suspension.  :feedback:

Only performance stripe option was the butt stripe.

Not true. The longitudinal stripe w/o R/T nomenclature was added later in the model year.
