Safety Tip - Seat Belts
« on: July 07, 2007 - 08:36:35 PM »
A jeep rolled over near my house, and the belts that held the guys broke. One guy dead, one guy in critical condition. If your Mopar has the original seatbelts, you are almost guaranteed they will break during an accident. Change'm out while you still can.
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

I haven't seen an actual break, but I _have_ seen belts that were badly edge-frayed due to wear, or so badly sunburned (Las Vegas sun will do that) that I wouldn't want to trust them.

:iagree: They would have to had to been badly frayed and/or brittle. I didn't take any risks and all my cars have modern seat belts. Stuff originality when my safety & others in the car are concerned. That's one code Galen can keep. Also, with new belts you can actually reach the stereo or glove box, retractor belts are gooooood.  :grinyes:

I forget the name at the moment but just your modern standard issue retractable belts.
You could probably buy similar ones at Summit or the-like.

That's something I haven't given much thought to......but I think I will give some attention to it now!! I guess from the sun and age the nylon can dry-rot. Good tip!!!  :2thumbs:

Wesco Performance belts........

Do these have stiff connectors by the console?  I have an aftermarket set-up, but the part by the console is soft and falls down next to the seat.  I noticed in NZ's pic his seem to "stand at attention".  I'd like to get something like that if anyone has details?

Thx

Just for the record I'm not using Westcoast belts, mine are standard issue NZ/Aus belt made by an Australian company. The companies name is, AutoLiv and their website is: www.autolivaftermarket.com But, like I said before, you can buy similar in the States. Make sure you do get ones that are stiff around the base. I can only imagine sliding your hand in between the console and seat every time trying to grab the belt would be a pain compared to pull the shoulder, click, gone. :2cents:

I'd worry more about the floor its bolted to.
NZ's belts do look good, a nice upgrade.
