Drove over to the shop and looked at a spare column and wheel. I see the gap they are talking about. With the wheel on it was not really noticeable. however with just a spacer and the wrong adapter it will be noticeable. I know Grant makes a ton of adapter rings, but don't know if they make one bigger without having to go to the challenger/cuda specific signature one you are looking at. Looks like I'll need the B body one when I put the new wheel on. I kind of like the original crush can better, is it really possible to shorten it?
