The reason my tires are so wide is because I got tired of seeing Vets and Vipers with WIDE tires and my 275s looked small.

Plus those 295s look so darn good.

Not as wide as theirs but closer.

Rob,

That was one comment I did make to you. You have some real meat on the rear. They are as big as it goes without rubbing issues.  :2thumbs:

That's too funny Jeff!  Good thing you only live 1.5 miles away.  How long would that take you to walk it?  20 Minutes maybe?

I pulled my axles last night after buying all of the bearings gaskets and seals to do my wheel bearings.  The BEARINGS LOOKED OKAY.  Darn,  I think all the trim rings were making the creaking noises on the wheels and not the bearings.   Some thing for everyone to think about before pulling your axles like I did.

The axles can be done during the winter, I have a car cruise to go to tomorrow night. Bearings aren't just a 1/2 hour job like the front wheels.  The retainers have to be cut off then the bearings pessed off and new one pressed on then end play has to be set.  Right now, I can slide them back in, 10 nuts, 10 lugnuts and I'm driving to the car show.

Mike, I was just cruising home doing the speed limit down 70, 65-75mph,  I got off to get gas. As I pull to a pump very slowly, I notice creaking sounds from my rear wheels. I knew my brakes were good so I figured that it had to be the bearings.  I checked them when I greased them last year, so what else could it be?  I pulled the axles  to take home and everything checked out okay. It had to be my trim rings creaking on the wheels.

I remember creaking noises when a universal joint was going bad... could have been a brake shoe grabbing.

Bullit99,
As much as I drive my car every year, I try to think about stuff going bad before it does.  My U-joints are new and my rear brake adjustments are correct. No chance of a rear shoe "grabbing" when my foot is off of the brakes.
The trims rings changed temp enough when I got off of the highway to get gas to make that high pitch creaking noise.   I was stopped at the pump and wanted to roll up another 2 feet. That's how slow I was going and that's when I heard the wheel making the high pitch creaking sounds.  I never thought about the Trim rings till I pulled the wheels, drums, and axles, then found nothing wrong there.  Those claws were just putting more scratches into my new wheel's paint.   I'm just letting members know to check those first, so they don't get ripped off.

WSM-Jim,

I couldn't put those 38 yr old bearings and seals back in since I had all of the parts, so I changed them and started a new thread here:

Darn,  I think all the trim rings were making the creaking noises on the wheels and not the bearings.

My daily driver had the same problem (honda) and it drove me nuts.  :pullinghair:  I could not get them to fit right, so I just pulled them off.  I know you would not do that on the Challenger, but I understand what you are talking about.   :2thumbs:
