emzvab12,

Seeing as how it's me saying this, you probably won't believe me, but.  :poopoke:

There is a study on the energy usage of automobiles, from cradle to grave, design, tooling,  cost of workers driving to work, fuel, maintainence, disposal, everything.  SUV's we're more Earth Friendly than most Hybrids.

I was going to say , you believe in the global warming hype but drive a SUV , seems like a contradiction to me , but trucks do last longer then cars & stand up better in accidents

I seem to recall hearing that all the cars worldwide only contribute 1/10 of 1% of all the greenhouse gases generated each year. So, going after them as gross polluters while power plants and industries can buy crushed car credits to avoid cleaning up their mess just ain't right.

I just picked up the grand daddy of all suvs last weekend; a Suburban. Funny thing is at 6000# with a V8 it gets better mileage than my previous suv, a Ford Explorer with a V6. Bought it as a family car but the wife has hijacked it from me almost every day.

In any case, here is an old aspen. Needs paint, but you get the idea. Definetly not an suv.

haha yes same for me, the king of the road feeling :) i like that.. but yea they are tough on gas.. the only one i know of.. actually ttwo.. the two hybrid suvs that ik now of the ford escape and then the lexus hybrid.. im not sure if there are any other hybrid versions.. but i hear they get pretty good gas mileage

There is always the Jeep Liberty CRD. It is a diesel and people in the US just don't realize that diesel vehicles kick butt in the economy field. I would much rather have my little diesel car over a hybrid. The hybrids don't get extrordinarily good fuel mileage when driving around town because battery powe doesn't come on till upper speeds.
There was a comparison between the Hummer H2 and the Prius.  It was the cradle to the grave comparison where they track the partss origin, energy used to produce, energy to transport the parts and finished products, useage, and disposal. The H2 handed the prius it's Azz. That Prius is a nasty little sucker. Nickle batteries are wicked things.
Pretty soon they will be handing out carbon offset credits(the latest treehugger scam), instead of incentives with those hybrids.
I say lets drink up all the dead dinosaurs we can.  :)

im not sure how this topic got so "off topic" but I wasnt talking about greenhouse gases, i was just simply stating what I drive and if anyone else liked SUVs, no need for all the attacks there.. I can be concerned for the environment and still drive a SUV :) I'm not sure whats so bad about that...

Around here, SUV's are real popular, but I haven't found a use for one. I always end up needed a real vehicle that I can tow with, plow with, and haul lots of stuff you either wouldn't want in the back of an SUV, or can't fit. I always love seeing the guy buying a matress with an SUV only to strap it to the top, or the person buried in snow up to the mirrors in the ditch with one, or the guy towing a boat 3x the size of the SUV... We call them Stupid User Vehicles around here because people can't drive them. :smilielol:

Mines a UAV, and I haven't found anything you can't haul, tow, or push out of the way. 260K+ miles on the stock drive train and still going. Sorry guys, but most of the time their just not usefull enough, and you can't get one with a diesel in the states.

This is what the wife ended up with. Dodge does not make a FULL size SUV so we went with the second best! '04 GMC Denali

I am visiting my folks this week and have driven thier Avalanche. It rides so much better than my 99 Yuk did. The Avy's are on the same chassis as the new Yuks and Tahoes so they should be a dream to drive as well.

Which, interstingly enough, are on torsion bar suspensions.

So, GM, and Toyota for that matter, has seen fit to outfit their most modern SUVs and trucks with t-bars for improved ride characteristics, better handling, and improved suspension design. Yet many mopar enthusiasts feel the need to ditch their t-bars for something more "modern," for improved hanlding, better design, etc.  Hmmm.  :clueless:

But I digress....

We've only had it a month, but I have to admit that I'm really liking the '04 Suburban we recently picked up. Hands down beats the Explorer it replaced. It is actually only a few feet longer, but has tons more power, not to mention the loads of interior space that are now at my disposal with seating for 8 and reasonable towing capacity to boot.

All Chryslers here, we have a 05 Hemi Durango and its has been a joy the whole way.  We are nearing 40k on it and havent had any trouble yet...    :misbehaving:  We get about 20-23 mpg on the highway.  I did add a cold air intake it helped with the fuel mileage 2-4 mpg depending.
