Hope you heal quick, Bob. so you can get back to the rewiring & get back on the road again.  I burned my calf on a bike exhaust also & they used a little brush on the burn to clean it.   :swear: :swear:

I'm also in the burned calf club. Tried to do the Terminator  :bigshades: bike U'ey burnout like he does in the movie and flipped it on myself. Happened many years ago. Big scar left.

Hey all,

Sorry for the long, overdue update, but I had to work last weekend and we didn't get a chance to work on the car at all.

Made some small, but good progress this weekend.  Goody came by on Saturday and he was able to separate the wires under the dash while I installed the new Auto-Meter gauges in my cluster.  Goody showed me what to cut out with the dremel and they fit like a glove.  Goody also wired up the backs (see pics below) as I'm not allowed to touch the soldering iron anymore  :walkaway:  :poopoke:.

All's good but there probably won't be another update for 2 weeks as we won't be able to meet this weekend to do work on the car.

Overall the car is coming along, slowly but surely.  The last 2 pics are my burn that's 90% healed.  It's still a little sensetive, but at least I have full use of it now and don't have to wear that bandage everywhere!

RDF, those will look great when installed. :grinyes:   Nothing beats Auto Meter gauges in an E-body, unless of course you're lucky to have a Rallye dash.

Sorry about the long, overdue update, but we both missed a week or 2 in August due to other things, so progress has been slow.

After the gauges, I put in a new Fuel Tank Sending Unit (upgraded to 3/8) and finished up the ashtray and such.  Goody worked under the dash again and then we finished up with the front engine bay.  Goddy was away in Vegas this weekend, so I finished installed the sending unit, routed all the wires and used crinkle hose to store them in.  I put in a new speedometer cable and also put my plug wires back on and cleaned up the remainder of the engine bay.  Hopefully we can get back at it this coming weekend and I think we can get it started.  We needed to make a special wiring connector for my ignition as the other one was melted, so I went to radio shack and got interlocking connectors that can hold 10 guage wiring.  I also went to skycraft (a local "we have it all for cheap" store) and got 4 gauge wiring for my stereo amps, 14 gauge wiring for my speakers and other minor stuff.  I don't know if I'll have all my stereo equipment by the time the car is ready to be put back together, but at least I can run the wires and have them ready for when I do.  :woohoo:

That guage cluster setup looks vaugely familiar for some reason... :clueless:

I've got AutoMeter Phantom guages for the speed, fuel, oil and temp but they don't make a Phantom Tach the right size to work in there. I used a silver AutoMeter Super-Comp tach instead. It kinda sets it off so the Tach stands out a bit. Kinda funny how some people can come up with the same idea without ever having met huh?

Another quick update.....we made good progress today.....it finally started!  :woohoo:  First time we tried to start it and it kicked right over......what a relief!

I broke down and bought an MSD 6AL that I found on carig's list here in Orlando for only $100.00.  That came with the instructions, all parts, and 3 rev limiter chips (6000, 7000, 8000).  I also bought a Master Blaster 2 coil (local auto store) to go with it.

Goody wired up the ignition column and other items under the dash while I installed the MSD box on the heater box, ran new 4 gauge wire for my amps (next project hehehe...), hooked up the coil and tried to clean up the engine bay a little. It's tough working now because we're down to just a few items left, so there's not much room for 2 of us to work so close, but we're getting it done!  As you'll see in some of the pics, the dash cluster is back togther (slightly) and the inside is still a mess of cut-up wires, connectors, etc.

Once the dash is back together, I'll take another pic of the gauges with their lights on, I used green bulb covers and I must say they look good.

We'll be back at it next Sunday, so look for another update then.  This week I'm just running another Positive cable to the starter, hooking up my headlights and bezels, and other minor stuff that can be done during the week.

Gettin there  :woohoo:

It looks like a bomb went off in there still, but as sections are getting 'finished' it looks much cleaner and more organized. Red zip ties were my best friend in sectioning off the wiring in the begining  :screwy:

We need Audio, Neutral Safety Switch wiring, Wiper wiring figured out, and the dome light circuit, oh and button up the MSD wiring as well.  :cooldancing:

*knock on wood* initial testing of things has been going pretty well  :2thumbs:

Those gauges look really nice. Good job fellas. When they light up what color are they? And what size are they if you don't mind me asking? I think that will be one of my future projects.

Yes it is funny how that is.....I guess most Mopar guys and gals know what looks best in these cars!!!  :cooldancing:

Yepper....

Goody, just an FYI, I did some more work after you left.  I had to lengthen the wires for the dimmer switch and reroute them through the dash console.  All is good now though, I'll bolt it in place later this week.  Getting used to soldering again..... :stirpot:
