Any pics of fire Extinguisher installs?
« on: July 12, 2007 - 03:47:04 PM »
I want to add 1 for safety.  Don't want to drill holes in floor pan.  What have you guys done, interior or trunk mounted?

Thx

I'm out, i have two little 1/4" holes in my floor on the passenger side of my console. getting your key out, out the car, open the trunk, get the fire extinguisher, and get to the fire is a bunch of steps. Mine is from the drivers seat...pull the pin within arms reach, get out, head where i need to head :2cents:

:iagree: If my car's on fire, I'd want the extinguisher within easy reach.

You can see mine in this pic.  If I put the console back I'll prolly put it off to the side.

Yeah, I know the passenger side is the spot that makes the most sense.  I was hoping to keep it out of sight.  Mine is on back seat right now also, LOL.  I'm still considering the trunk mounted option.

I know it wouldn't be the fastest access, but the way I look at it, it's better than what I've had for the last 10 years, nothing.

Thx for the replies.

:iagree: No holes to drill-I made a rectangular plate the same size as the jack base, drilled a hole in th center for the stud/wingnut and screwed the extingiusher mount to the plate.I know time is critical in a fire but it only takes seconds longer to get it out of the trunk.

I have a small one that just fits inside the glove box. Out of sight but still easy to get to. Sorry I don't have a pic.

After 30 years as a firefighter, I can say this with a little experience behind my statement.  What if the fire is in the trunk or gas tank area?  You can't assume the fire will only be under the hood or dash area.  Fires have a way of starting where they want  to and not where they are convenient for us.  To me, they need to be accessible from the passenger compartment.  Just my old 0.02......

Mine is right where scatterbrain's is. My girlfriend got it for my b-day. That day a guy at her work was asking her about my car. She said it was my b-day and she had gotten me a fire extinguisher. He said his buddy had a 'cuda,Had it fully restored. On it's maiden cruise it caught fire and burned to the ground.   Get one, keep it close.

I wish I had a pic of mine, but it's right on the trani hump.....in fact, if I go over a big hump, you can hear the screws scrap the driveshaft.....but I wanted it right beside me incase of a fire.....no need to be scambling to find it when you car is full of smoke or flames.

Sounds interesting, any pics?  As far as speed to get to, I have an electric trunk opener, so I bet the time difference would be 5-10sec worst case.

Thx

Unless it is an electrical fire and the circuit/wire is shorted out and the switch fails.  Not trying to stir the pot, but I have seen em all when it comes to fires and their origins/causes.  I hope you never need to use the extinguisher, that's the best deal.....    :2thumbs:

Hang it under the dash using existing holes, or make a bracket that bolts under the seat brackets or the console mounting brackets.  Lots of options using factory holes.  Find a place you like, then find the closest factory holes, make a bracket.  Done!
