    Thinking of replacing the valve body in my 727, so I have some questions.
    I have a 70 'cuda with a 727 and a B&M shift kit. Don't know what type of valve body that is in the 'cuda now. The reason I want to change it is that it really hard move the shifter. I have to use force to move it. And rock it back and forward to get it in the right gear like it slipping a little. And the the revers lights are on in drive as well as revers. If I replace the valve body. Do I need to removed the B&M shift kit? If so how? The cars shift really fast and hard right now. Just the way I like it.

    The valve body I was thinking of is TCI Automotive 122400. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=TCI-122400.

    I have never played with a automatic before. Do you think I can change the valve body myself? Do I need to take the tranny out of the 'cuda to do it?

    You need to figure out what is making it hard to shift.Unhook the linkage and see if the tranny lever is hard to move by itself,if it is fix the problem on THAT VB.The TCI VB is no different than what you already have. Yes you can R&R the VB yourself,no you don't have to remove the tranny to do it. :thumbsup:

    I've removed the linkage and it still is hard to move. I have to use a lot of force to move it. Even if the rear wheels are of the ground. It's between park, revers, neutral and drive it is hardest to move. Drive to 2nd and 1st is easier. It used to be a B&M shifter in the car before. I think the force you had to use to shift the car then has wrecked the VB. I have compared to to my Ramcharger (it has a 727 as well. 4x4 89 model) and it's really easy to shift.

    So are you saying you dont have a stock shifter? The shifter itself is a b&m?  If so, it's a cable shift and not a rod shift. The cable is bound up or melted or something. Knothing but a ball bearing on a selector tree is on the valve body internals itself.
    But there is no telling what is going on inside the tranny or the linkage since you didnt build it.

    You have to diagnose the problem before you can fix it. And a valvebody change is quite simple, but you must follow a certain procedure to do it.

    member tactransmission would be a pro at this. but the shifter setup needs to be right before you start playing with the valve body. And if the valvebody selector is messed up, you may to change the selector seal so it doesnt leak.

    If you have removed the linkage and know it is in the tranny drop the pan. One thing that I have seen in the past is the VB is not centered on the case correctly and the stem that sticks out of the case that the lever pinch bolts to is actually rubbing metal to metal against the case.One thing you can try is to loosen the 7/16 VB bolts a couple of turns and see if it shifts more freely.If so tighten them back down and see if it is OK. :thumbsup:

    Cool, I'll try that. Hope that is the problem.
    But I'll still need the little plastic bit that on the gear selector, so I can get rid of the revers light when the car is in drive. Must I have a new VB to replaced it?

    I had the same problem, come to find out is was a broken motor mount. engine would move enough to bind my linkage and make shifting very hard. good luck hope you find it
