So are you saying you dont have a stock shifter? The shifter itself is a b&m? If so, it's a cable shift and not a rod shift. The cable is bound up or melted or something. Knothing but a ball bearing on a selector tree is on the valve body internals itself.
But there is no telling what is going on inside the tranny or the linkage since you didnt build it.
You have to diagnose the problem before you can fix it. And a valvebody change is quite simple, but you must follow a certain procedure to do it.
member tactransmission would be a pro at this. but the shifter setup needs to be right before you start playing with the valve body. And if the valvebody selector is messed up, you may to change the selector seal so it doesnt leak.
