that thing in the garage
« on: July 13, 2007 - 10:21:52 PM »
as my wife calls it.
I'm the second owner of a 318 1970 barracuda.I bought it back in 1982 with my paper route money for 800 bucks,LOL.fixed it up as a kid would, put a 340 in it after I spun a main and drove it.when I bought it it was black even though the original color was in violet.I still remember going to see phantasm at the movies and all the looks I got when the theater let out, that was cool.now after all these years it's time to do some fix'n up and at least return her to the color she was born with.
I had already did the underside, rebuilt the rear and brakes and added ss springs but I did'nt take any picks.next step is the engine bay and front suspension.
so without further adoo, here's my thing in the garage, ahhmm 1970 barracuda.......

next I sandblasted, cut out the rot, welded in patches and in some spots bonded in some patchwork.sand some more, mask and wiped down the panels with prep-sol,ready to paint.

next I sprayed one coat of PPG DP-40.I love this stuff as far as sealing and durrability, wear a good respirator and have some good ventilation,an HVLP spray gun is also helpfull.

I let that flash for 20 min then aplied the topcoat.I mixed up the c7 at work useing Dupont chroma one single stage urethane.there is no recipe for this color in single stage but it converts nice useing the basecoat formula and the 7020g binder.
first coat was just single stage and the second coat I mixed in 20% 7500 clear but used the single stage hardner with the clear.
what I like about the single stage is it's fast, cheap, less spraying, gives a more factory look and the clear mixed in with the final coat really adds to the gloss.
I'll snap some more pics when I get some more parts on the car.next step is the suspension.

Welcome aboard stinger, wow that's some serious progress...nice work. Bet it won't be long before your wife changes her tune from "that thing in the garage" to "my car".
