How far... (update 7-31)
« on: July 14, 2007 - 10:54:42 AM »
... to the point of no return???  :bricks1:

The car needs some work. How far till I get in over my head? I can't do a full restoration, not enough funds... :(

I do have to fix where the car was hit, and some other places too. One thing you can't see in the photos is it also needs the drivers side floor patched.

I can just see it now... One thing leading to another, then another, then...  :bricks1:

Well it looks like you are already on the edge of the deep end  :naughty:

This looks like the typical rot areas on most Challenger and Cudas. You may be able to gey by with just patching the problem areas, but until you cut out the bad, and put in the good it will just be back.

Probably a good candidate for the dip tank.  Still, it's your car and you can go hog wild on restoring it or just drive it around....

When you do get to working on it you might need a roof  :sadwavey:

DIP TANK!!! Aaaaaaaaa  :22yikes: I don't think I can go that far now. Wish I could. New patches in the rear quarters, patch the floor up and firewall. And then just patch the roof as best I can, is about as far as I can go now.

As far as that roof... Thats why I am glad I have this...  :naughty:

It won't be too bad 4C, and I'm not looking for a show winner. I can patch it up good.  :working: I just got to keep it from getting out of control with the cost and time.  :pullinghair: It's going to be tough to keep the "snowball effect" from growing. It is already getting bigger buddy... Bumpers, trim, patch panels, ect., ect.,...  :bricks1:

I know it can be fixed up Clown... You have been a big inspiration to me already. Thanks.   :worshippy

it all depends on how big of a snowball you want to have.one thing for sure is that it will snowball on you so just take you're time makeing the best decision you can over everything you do.if you go the cheap route on something make sure it can easily be changed later on and put the money into stuff you will never want to redo again.

Whatever you do is going to take money & or time....If you are able to do the tear down & re-assembly maybe the rest could be affordable..These things will never get any better on thier own or cheaper to repair...Why not give fishin a shout for a guesstimate!?!?

You gotta ask yourself what your future holds for your mopar love.

I mean I know you know what's involved in this, but I do too - the longer you sit and debate or the longer you do a "little here little there" the other stuff is just going to keep catching up.  I know the idea of a full tear-down and repair is mind-boggling and probably high on the "lotta work for NOOOOT that much fun" list, you have to decide whether you're going to fix it, or hand it over to someone else who can/wants to fix it before it's totally beyond repair.  Once those lip edges get bad, they're impossible to repair.  Then you're looking at aftermarket panels that don't quite have the right contour, etc...

It's really all our opinions - obviously it's up to you in the end.  I'm envious of you - you have the welders and such that you need to do the job right.  I'd kill for a good MIG welder...

Its only going to get worse.  I would get the body strip/blasted and get it in paint.  At least get the body done, you can reuse the interior, leave the motor/trans, suspension etc... as is for now.
