What am I in for???
« on: July 15, 2007 - 09:40:42 AM »
In attempting to figure out my carb problem, I have unearthed a real ugly monster.  :scared: If I put the car in drive, the engine revs, and it goes nowhere. I can put it in first, and manually shift up to third, and reverse works too. Keep in mind this was my best diagnosis limping home about 1.5 miles this morning. Also note there was some real scary noises coming from the tranny for a few seconds once it did start moving. So I know some damage was definitely done. I had this tranny rebuilt 3 years ago. I have NO clue about trannys, so I will have to take this some place. My question is, what am I in for, another rebuild, or might I get lucky and just need a new thingamajig or doo-hickey?  :dunno:

EDIT: The tranny fluid looks good, and doesn't smell burnt.

Oooo Nooo ...  :banghead: Doesn't sound like you will make the Nats. Maybe get another trans and swap them would be the quickest way for now.

Having your carb off could this be a kick-down linkage issue?!?!?!

"Scary noises" do not usually easily lend themselves to needing just a "thingamajoohickey..."

My first question was going to be fluid level - I was getting some scary noises and delayed shifts from neutral into first, but then I realized the trans fluid was dry - pan bolts had all loosened slightly.

If your fluid is good, then man I dunno...  Rebuild is most likely imminent.

Mike,

Still trying to find a reason to not go to the Nats?    Geez..

Get a working valve body and swap yours out for testing.  This will tell you if it has to come out or not.
I hope you didn't pop the rear sprag.

What did you do before it started doing this?

We expect you at the Nats even if you don't bring your car.

I wish it was the fluid level guys, but my ears tell me otherwise. It sounded like I was dragging something under my car for a while there.   :crying: I think I be $crewed.  :faint: I'll check it again though.

Mike,if you put it in D and 2 and it does not move forward, then you put it in manual low and then it engages, you rolled over the rear sprag. :crying:

I still want to know what you did to knock out your trans. It had to be shocked hard to kick it out.  Were you trying to do a Shelbydogg burnout?

A fast idle when putting it in a forward gear will take out the sprag really quick!. :grinyes:

Mike seems to not be talking about it.

C'mon Mike, tell us what you did while you were testing your carb.
