Terrible Shelby, just terrible...

 :roflsmiley:

Well, if your fluid level is good, then it's obviously not the same thing, but that's exactly what my car was doing before I checked the fluid and was a quart low - sounded like something was binding in the tranny and it was jerking on me, especially in reverse.  Very scary.

However, granted though I don't know these trannys as well as some others I've worked on, I thought the sprags were used in tranny braking - as in non-overdrive usage, but weren't actually used to transfer power.  Maybe I'm wrong though.  It more sounds part of the piston apply function has failed - either a seal has blown that's causing a piston not to fully engage, or a piston return spring is jammed/malfunctioning.  I'd think that if the sprag had failed, it'd just "zing" on ya.  Also, you'd have had to be drivin' it like a mega-***** to get the sprag to blow, wouldn't ya?

What does ChrycoPsycho have to say about all this?  Again, if I were nearby, I'd gladly help tearing it apart with ya - I love tranny's.

If he tries to drive it AT ALL right now, he risks blowing it up. not just on the inside but the whole case.  Mike don't even try to see if you can still drive it so it fixes itself. It has to be pulled out or towed to be repaired. It probably sounds like you threw a whole can of bolts in there right now.  Funny how one sprag assembly can affect the whole operation.

Still not saying how you blew it up huh?

Hope you figured out the prob,,,, and for a rebuild, I personally WOULD NOT take it to that place on Ritchie Highway with the big orange sign. I'd be willing to bet that Tac can set you up with everything you need to rebuild and even walk you through the steps to do it yourself :2thumbs:  BTW,, whats a thingamadohicky?   Is it connected to the muffler bearing :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol:

You can get them at auto parts stores - in the same aisle as headlight fluid.

That is everything needs to know to repair his own transmission.  I wish that I had that video to watch years ago when I started rebuilding them.

Tactransman,
The guys in the video didn't seem to miss anything on operation and troubleshooting.  Did you see anything wrong?
Very informative MEK.
