Newbie here from Atlanta
« on: July 15, 2007 - 10:36:44 AM »
Wanted to introduce myself & ask a question at the same time.

My 72 cuda has a speedo gauge issue.  I have checked all the fuses & I am good there, I am thinking that the gauge is bad.  Odometer or trip meter doesn't work either. Is there something I am overlooking?  What is the normal route for repairing or replacing this gauge?

2nd question, how do you post a pic in the thread?

Great looking site!

Thanks ahead of time!

Welcome aboard 72cuda340.  I'm from GA as well.  Does your car still have the factory speedometer in it?  If so, your speedometer cable is probably broken.  The cable runs from the back of the speedometer to the tailshaft of the transmission.  They aren't that hard to replace and are pretty inexpensive as well.  You should be able to pick one up at your local parts store.  I got mine at Advance Auto Parts.  To post a pic in the thread, get the direct link to your image, right click on it, choose properties, and the http address should pop up along with other information. Copy that address and whereever you want to put it in the thread, click on this button, and put your address between the img's.

Fine looking Cuda...Welcome to C-C.com
Speedo problem can also be a bad pinion gear at the tranny, where the cable hooks up,  disconnect the cable from the tranny & spin it & see if the speedo reacts at all, if not it's probably the cable.

I do have a factory speedo.  I will make the first step and do as "4speed" suggested and look into the cable.  Any other input would be great!
