Is there a title with the VIN on it to verify if it was a RT. Is the data tag under the hood that would match the title with VIN on it. This way you could check all body numbers such as core support and cowl to see if these other numbers match the title and data tag.

no the guy swaped the dash pad out for one out of a 318 chally that had a mint pad and 3 speaker  so that is what the title is for    the car was orignaly white/black and he took the fender tag off for the repaint  hes looking for it as we speak

I'm sure the 2 pins are correct on the bulge hood and 1970 used stick on RT emblems on the fenders and trunk lid.

I hope he can find the data tag and the next thing would be to find the build sheet in the seats or under carpet or ask the owner if he has it so the VIN can be checked.

OK, so if I am reading this right, it has been re-titled with the 318 cars dash VIN and title, correct?

This is totally illegal. The guy needs to try and get his money back. The most common reason that this happens is that the car was stolen and re-numbered.

Contact a local law enforcement agency and have them look at the car. They can run the partial body VIN and see if the car has been reported stolen. If it has not been stolen, you can apply for a state issued VIN number.

If it was stolen, the guy that sold it has some explaining to do.

no the car is not stolen  the only thing that was changed was the dash pad (i know dumb ) he also had a 70 318 car  none of the metal on this car has been messed with   it even still has the orignal 1/4,s it left the factory with the botttom havent even been patched even if the car is gust a 318 car or what ever  it will be having its wheels off in bout 3 weeks (needs bumpers) and for what was paid for it i highly doubt your gonna find a rust free un molested body for that pricethe only thing it has done the guy didnt like white and had it painted yellow he has owen the car since79   car has a 340 in it now

Ok, but how do you know it was not stolen? Have you contacted anyone in law enforcement to ask?  :dunno:

Even if the chassis was not stolen, having it titled with a different VIN number is still illegal.

the guy has had the car since very late 70,s and also still had the title to the outher dash  but he junked the pad and wasnt 100 percent sure but thought he might of pitched the title also as it had mint pad on it and wasnt gonna swap them back  also the car is from here local  if you had a car you knew  was stolen would you be stupid enuff to sell it to a guy that is gonna be driving it here in the open ever day? and he also still has the orignal fender tag  should get it  in next day or 2   the car was not listed for sale my friend just seen it and offered him some cash(less then half of what a nos shaker hood would cost lets just say that)  the guy thought about it as it has been setting in side for  ever and said ok went home got the trailer and brung it home only thing it needs is bumpers (front and back)new vinal top put back on(came with the car) and windshield has crack.... grill has a crack, back window need to reinstalled (was took out when painted)  the carpet is very nice as the buckets and headliner  very nice car for the few thou he paid for it and yes it will be drove every day its nice out

Well, if the guy was dumb enough to steal the car, why would he not be dumb enough to sell it several years later?

Have your pal do himself a big favor and get a local cop to inspect it and run the numbers.  :2cents:
