Chally360-

The sad part is that even Hot Rod Magazine has subscribed to the whole rice trend. When they subscribed to rice, I cancelled my subscription to Hot Rod.

However, it is some consolation that they spent more to build up a fwd 4 banger auto to 400hp than they spent to build an 8 to 700...

I think that I will be dropping my subscription of Hot Rod as well. I was getting it years ago and decided to go with a mopar mag, because I was tired of reading about General Mistakes (GM) cars. But lately I decided I would give them another try and now not only do they not represent the mopars but they are also going on about imports. I understand that imports might be a natural progression given that kids now when they get the parents hand-me-down car it usually a Honda or some other Ricer. My Hand-me-down car was a 1972 340 Cuda 4 speed that my parents bought new when I was a year old. I actually feel sorry sometimes because your sitting at a light and here is this honda or Yota which ever with a giant pumpkin shooter hanging off the back and it sounds like a can of bees going down the road. Then you look in the window and you would think the kid was driving a Hemi Cuda they way is trying to pimp. I just shake my head and think oh well.....

Well I will get off my soap box now.

The day I go rice is the day I see one in a dragster but to the mopar vs chevy.... its whatever rocks your boat. I think the mopars are stronger and you can get more ponies out of um for less but chevy parts are a lot easier to come by and the spark plug wires on chevys look a lot neater and are easier to route than those 440 plugs that hide under the exhaust...

67Vette427,

I gotta agree with you on parts availability.  I trip over Chevy stuff, even the "rare" stuff.  I have to scrounge up Mopar stuff, but the fun is in the hunt  ;D  Like the E-Body 4-spd console I found at a primarily Ferd - Chevy show for $100.  Made my day.

Vette....Amen on the findig Chevy parts. I've been looking for a STR-12 cross ram for my 340 (one that I don't have to mortgage the house for) and I'm having no luck. Now for small block chevys which I think were on the Z28 camaros and considered rare.....it's like I can't help but find them :P

By the way I saw your Picture on the other thread, you have three very nice cars Vette!!!!!

Thanks kuda... Well the swap meets are going to be starting soon and I need a few parts for the Challenger and I'm hoping to find them too at a mainly chevy - ford show. Then again the rarity of these mopars make them worth all the more.

hey kilrcuda, what year was that svo? if it was a 84 to 86, there only 4  cylinders.  84 to 86 were the only mustangs that were  svos  with the 4 banger and turbochared.

Yeah it was a 84 SVO $ banger :-\ But he got lucky. He actually built the motor and had a adjustable blow off and NOS, so he was fast. He basically was killing all the 5.0's around the area and even a few the camaro guys. But I made a fatal error in street racing I showed my cards :-\ I went out with blood on my mind so when I ran him instead of holding back a little hoping to hook one of his friends for a race, I went out and buried him by no lie about 7-8 car lengths. So I shot myself in the foot nobody who was there or new him wanted to run me anymore oh well.......S**T happens!

hey.
there is no better than mopar, but i have to admit, i could go for a new subaru sti. im probably not going to own a mopar till im 30 and you can take them stis out to the back country <home sweet home> and ditch anything with wheels on one of them logging roads.

getting some rice into the strip on the other hand costs about 200k and youre still only rinning high 11s.

i got a 78?dodge ramcharger <suv crossover thing> that my pa lets me take out for a spinn every once in a while, and i swear to god , gravel is the greatest gift of god. :)
<would help if i cold get a pic of one>

He's new to the Mopar game, he thought it was 69 as that's what he heard. Me and BIG MIKE have already told him that they were made in 1969 but are classed as there release year 1970.  ;D

In the early 70's, my father had a '72 Challenger with a '71 340 tuned out to about 350 HP.  The closest he ever came to losing was to a BB El Camino.  Fortunately, my father was a semi-professional racer and had the know-how to back up the car.

So it's not just how fast you drive, it's how you drive fast.

If you follow the F.A.S.T and Pure Stock racing series, Buick, Pontiac, Chevy, Ford and Mopar all win and loose their share of races. Stage 1 Buicks, Super Duty Pontiacs, LS6 Chevies, Super Cobra Jet Fords and Hemi Mopars all run within tenths of each other and it's more a function of the driver and prevailing conditions that decides who's winning.

The first car to break into the 10's in the F.A.S.T series is a 69 427 Corvette. It's absoultly amazing that a car on skinny bias ply tires can run that fast.
