In my personal oppinion the driver of the Chevelle was probably afraid to take the car to its full potential in other words he was a puss to put it rudely. In the short 14 years I was on the planet I rode in a chevell just like that and then in my cousins 65 383 dart and the chevelle was a lot more powerful. FORD SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

all i know is that mopar rules! I rode in a 69 440+6 Road-Runner a little while ago, and I guaruntee that it would kick any other car in the local area's butt. I live in Idaho so everyone around is either a ferd or chebby lover. there are some very nice (if thats possible) chevelles (396 SS) and a 67 maro w/ a 454 w/ a lot of $ invested into each, and they don't hold a candle to the b-body. for the ford lovers around here, a guy i know has a '69 Mach 1 428 cobra jet 4 spd, and there is no way it could beat the runner......

So what planet you on now? Talking up Chebys on a Mopar site, you must be in outer space!

You can build just about anything to beat anything with enough money. As someone already mentioned, there's always a tougher kid on the block.

Here's one if you want to run the Chevelle, be my guest! And it's only a 383.

MoPar Musce Car Magazine had an article on a 340 Duster running 7's in the 1/4 (street legal).
As (Mike lol) Glen said anyone can beat anyone if you have the $$$, question is which would you be in?

$$$ 9 Second MoPar or a $$$ 9 Second Chev?

I know where 99% of this board would be riding!!

Exactly!!!!  It sounds like someone's still too much attached to his Chevy..... ::)  Trust me, when I first got into cars, I was mostly Chevy....Then I found a '69 Charger one of my parent's friends had sitting behind his shed.  The lines were so sweet on that car, so I got to thinking about MoPars more and the next thing I knew I was the owner of that poor rust bucket.  As I converted over to only MoPar, I got a ride in a very sweet '70 'Runner 440-6 Pack and then all the stories began to unfold between my Chevy friends about how they've all been upset either racing a MoPar or actually getting sick from riding in extremely fast MoPars.  It was such a nice feeling to hear some of my die hard Chevy friend's fathers telling me stories about how even though they love their Chevies through and through, "The MoPar guys really gained their respect for building some of the baddest cars they've seen on such a small budget." :P :D ;D :)

BWAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

712 inch?
Cmon! the short deck on a BB chev, even if it was a tall deck engine, could never get up the stroke for 712! (what brand of block is it?)
Reasons why MOPAR rulz?
heres a few................
(1) Rocker shafts (no little rockers going "doink" and coming off the stands) In fact, if your "712" inch chev doesnt have rocker shafts, then you didnt build it right.
(2) Skirted block. Chrysler hid they're crank in the block, not stuck it out on the end, with poorly desighned main caps to hold it in. (chev SB's are the worst)
(3) Short rods. (no torque)
(4) Crank oiling, and cam oiling sucks on a chev, real bad.
(5) Block material (chev blocks are softer, and weaker)
I could keep going, but, I can say this, I have raced my work trucks, and have got beat by one chevy, it was a 3/4 ton, GMC, but................it had a Buick 455 in it. (LOL!) Smoked my lil 318, well............untill about 90, he ran out of gear.
No matter what you have, someting will always be faster! And, as long as John Forces Ford is a hemi? I will say that MOPAR RULZ!
(second would be Olds/Buick/Pontiac/Cadillac.................)
And, before you go knocking Fords, better find a old 406 or a 427/8/9 for your lil Chevelle!

Kisses and hugs.

Hmmm,
I don't believe in the superiority of any one make over another.

I've seen an 11 second 327 in a 69 Chevelle, but he was running 4.88s.
A friend has a 340 in a 74 Duster that runs 12.20s with 4.11s.
Another friend runs 12.10s in a 69 GTX with a 440 with 3.90s.

I've run a 12.19 @ 111 mph in a 72 Chevelle with a 502 and 3.55s.

Thing is anybody whose never been beat is dodgeing the tough competetors.
I like Mopars, Chevys, Buicks, Fords, and Pontiacs.

The "fast guy" is going to be the "fast guy" in a Chevy, Ford, or Mopar.

If you put a 440 in a Dart that weighs 2800 lbs it ought to be fast.

A drag racer/speedshop owner I knew in Walnut Creek, CA said this to me about 30 years ago.....  "Speed costs money, how fast ya wanna go?"

Go MOPAR!
MOPAR or NO car!

Yeah there were.
Turn a Olds upside down and look, you can tell they had a mopar on a stand when they designed them.
Besides, a 7500rpm 455 better be fast.........................................
