Chevy vs. MOPAR (question)
« on: December 13, 2003 - 07:11:18 PM »
Just curious, but have yall ever lost ? Or only post the kills where you win in a situation like this ? Because I was a big fan of the '69 chevelle SS 396/375hp (11:1 compression)...muncie.... and was about to buy one too. I cannot see how a 340 6pack, 383,360, or your 318's could whoop up on a car like this.

My plans for one if I got one were going to be a bigger cam, al. heads, bigger carb and matching manifold, MSD ignition, Headers, Exhaust, etc.

Just wondering how the Mopar always wins...everyone including myself in my family have only driven Chevy's and rarely dodges....never fords...  :o

I'm not exactly sure what all the stuff is but Mopar has built the egines a lot stronger and all there insides produce more Torque.

You know BB someone will always have something faster, build what you like and build it for what you want.  Pro-street, or just a nice curiser,.......

My take on this one big block is like this, how often do u actually here anyone talking about the races they loose? Its just something that most people dont do. I will tell u that last summer i lost to a BB cheby 427. But u know my small block mopar 340 was only half a car length behind 8) Hmm..... make me wonder what would have happened to him if i was a 440. Can u say victory? Nuff said

I haven't had the chance to race mine yet, but no doubt I'll get beaten in the futurem, by some rich Ferrari or a heavily modified 8 - If so I won't lose by much and if we hit the highway I should get my revenge there  :D

If the $$ spent are the same & the builder knows what he is doing picking parts that work together Generally the Mopar will win . If you spend 60K on any engine a 5k engine Should lose to it However I built a blown 440 , the engine cost 3500 , the blower cost 4000 & the body cost approx 7500 & we ran 10. 4 @ 136mph & we killed a tube chassis Chev truck with an aftermarket alum engine that cost over 75k to build, he ran 10.9s !! I also watched a street race between a 440 69 Cuda & a 427 66 Chevelle , the Chevelle won by 3' over the Cuda but the engine exploded in the Chevelle as he crossed the 1/4 mile mark so the win was not very sweet   ::)

yes, mopars lost some races.......but most the ones i seen/or lost was cause of loss of traction or driver error..

i have seen 273 stock out run a stock 350...also i heard from my uncle and dad that the 273 will also out run a 425 with two 4's......  my dad was driving the 273 and my uncle had the 425 and he blew the rad. trying to catch my dad.....talking about somebody being pissed...if you bring it up today he still gets huffy ;D

the only down sides i can see with a MOPAR  is cost & finding parts...the net helped alot with the parts.

Hi all,

As I sit here doing the math, I figure that no matter what kind of car it is, Mopar, GM, Ferd, whatever,  if you spend enough money on it to get it to run in the 11's it'll probably beat a car that runs 12's.  For my money, I'll build a 440.  Parts are still easy enough to get and you can get a lot for every $ spent.  Besides, it's just too easy to find GM motors ( I have 3 or 4 ), I want something special.

Good point PG, down here everyone has chivi engines I'm talking 8/10 guys they all use the 350 makes me sick the other 2 out of ten are usually 302-351 phords, and mixed in there are the Mopar's.
If I want to use something everyones else does I'd go and use the trollies at K-mart, the 350's are cheap and nasty and slow as a donkey but the parts are in every gutter so you can see why - But me, Naaaaaaa I'll stick to my 440 Challenger any day, all day and for ever!!  8)

When this buildup of my slant six is done (I figure it'll cost me close to $3K)... it'll be able to keep up with all the big boys... my figures, along with estimates from a couple machine shops have put the fly HP @ about 400 and the RWHP @ just a touch over 300!!  :o ::) :D Now stick that in one of the lightest Mopar's ever made... ::) ;D ;D Not only will the rice be eaten, but I'll get GM's for appitizers and Phjords for dessert!!

My dad and uncle watched a kid that had an AAR Cuda don't know for sure what the engine package was it might of been the 440 +6 or 340 +6 engine wit the 4 spd tranny......anyways according to my uncle and dad another kid owned a Chevy Chevelle and thought he had something and challenged the kid with the Cuda.  Some how the kid in the Cuda missed 2 gears and still beat the Chevelle by two car links.  But i have heard mopars loosing.......just look at some more of the stories.

Well as much as hate to admite it I have 1 or 2 loses to my credit. I lost to a 1970 Road Runner with a built 440 (still can't figure what I was thinking?) then I lost to of all things a SVO Mustang. But for good reason I blew the clutch when I shifted the car into 2nd gear. Well it cost me $50 for the race and alot more than that to put the car together. But I feel better knowing that a month after the lose I found that SVO and ran him again for $100 and well let just say he saw my tail lights get small REAL FAST!!!!! THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN A LITTLE REVENGE  ;D
