Map light plastic frame
« on: July 17, 2007 - 06:33:31 PM »
Does anyone make those yet? It's the plastic piece that the map light bolts onto. I used to have one but it broke.
a pretty rare part it seems.

Are you talking about the plastic that attaches to the bottom of the dash?starts under the radio and extends to the passenger side corner?

Yeah that's it, would seem like a simple piece to make yet I have never heard of them being re popped.

I have one that was broken and split all over the place, but all the pieces were there.I tried that plastic fix that I read about by mixing plastic shavings of the same material in a glass jar with some acetone.I am amazed and now have that part for my dash,I'll post some pic's of how its coming out.

TC, I found mine at Carlisle in '04 for something like $35.00 in awesome condition.  While walking around with it, someone offered me $90 on the spot, so I know they're getting rather pricey for what it is.  I think I've watched a couple on eBay go for around $80-100, but that was back when I still needed mine.  I'd suggest doing what MoparClown has said and try to repair the one you have.  Provided things bond well, it should come out looking great and only you will know it had been repaired.  As for finishing it, you should be able to get some textured paint (same that's used on the lower dash edges, heater/ac control housing & radio plates) to apply several light coats to and achieve a similar texture the factory used.

I wish I had it still.
My car has the light package option. I have seen a couple on E bay go for crazy prices too. That's why I can't believe they arent't being made yet.

Oh well, mine was that nasty green/gold color anyway.

Here you go,I don't have any before pics. But once its done it will be painted black to match the dash.I almost threw it out because I have done the super glue route in the past with parts and it sucks, this process is great so far.Anyone got any plastic parts that they don't want to deal with?I might be interested in them--Thanks The Clown

TC I think I got a extra one of those lying around if you want it, I paid for it so I can't give it away  :icon16:

Clown I always see those pieces called a/c trim piece. I assumed that it covered the larger A/C heater box from view...  :dunno:

The dark one looks good. But as long as either one is in decent shape, I take either one.
