I went through factory parts books , old crash books and TSB's. I also checked my books on supersceded part numbers. All of them agree on the part numbers. To start with Chrysler called them nuts. The large one is part number 2999001. The small one is part number 6027749.
In 1970, the large one was used on the Imperial and full size Plymouths and Dodges. The small one was used was used on the Valiant, Dart, Barracuda, Challenger, Belvedere-Satallite, and Coronet-Charger.
In 1971, the large one was used on the Belvedere-Satallite, Coronet-Charger. The small one was used on the Barracuda-Challenger.
I do not have enough reference material to do 1972.
In 1973, the large one was used on the Valiant, Dart, Belvedere-Satallite, Imperial, and full size Dodge and Plymouth. The small one was used on the Barracuda-Challenger.
I do not have enough material for 1974. I do have an 80,000 mile 74 Challenger parts car here that someone let rust in peace until it was dead. It has the remote mirror. It also has the small nut on it.
This is by the books part numbers. I know this is the information judges use to judge the cars. With Chrysler anything could have been substituted on any day on the assembly line.
To answer your question; according to the part numbers, Ebodys should always use the small nut. Now let's see if we can prove or disprove it.
