Just when your thought you had seen everything, at least for me anyways....

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Well, I kinda like it, just like that Shelby Charger.  What else were they going to do in the 80's?    Thats the only thing they could.   :swaying: :burnout:

I agree. I always liked the Shelby Chargers, and this would have been a worthy Plymouth version.

I came real close to building a turbo Dodge, so I like the idea of the car, but not with the Cuda name badge.

That's probably the way the Charger folks felt about the Shelby charger too , although a buddy of mine had a 68 and a Shelby at the same time.  I don't even mind calling it a Barracuda, but I would have been happier with a classier stripe.  What's on it belongs on a 70s van with thick fur carpeting covering every surface and smoke rolling out of it.

Thank God it never made it.

I had a friend who had a Shelby that was similiar from back then and it was always in the shop. The car was a lemon.

What else were they going to do in the 80's?    Thats the only thing they could.

Which is why I defected to GM and bought a Camaro since it was a V8 and correct wheel drive. Sure, some of those turbo cars were fast, but it just wasn't the same. I recall a magazine test between the IROC Z and the SVO Stang. Both were equally fast at the strip and through the cones, but with the torque on demand from the V8, even the magazine editors prefered it to the buzzing turbo 4.

My buddy's Shelby was a screamer, and I don't think he ever had any problems with it.  His big thing back then was to smoke Rabbit GTIs.  PErsonally, I'd love to get hold of a GLHS Charger.

I had 2 , a Rampage & a Daytona Shelby Z both were fun to drive but spent more time apart thas
n running , I tried to use the Z for daily transportation & spent more time walking than driving , I eventually bought a /6 4 spd truck for under a grand so I could at least get to work reliably , both 2.2s were total Lemons

I had another friend with a Daytona Shelby, and he would agree with you completely.  Interesting thing, though, is that all of the stuff that went bad on his were the Gertrag parts, the German add-ons, like the shifter and the brakes.

shifter broke 3 times until I built one out of steel , clutch , tie rods  ,,oil line , head gaskets , water line to turbo , gas tank mount , wiring , plugged Cat ,bad struts,, broken cam , CV joints , Computer , dropped a pin out of the shifter into the tranny / diff & exploded the trans ,  I did all the labor & it still cost me $3500 to keep it on the road for just over 1 year till I sold it
