These Hockey Stick stripes are rough.

Sorry, I know this is not in the spirit of the board but the 70 Hockey Sticks I bought from 'ChallengerGary' on this board are pretty poor and I felt like letting everyone know.  Gary assured me they were identical to factory which is just wrong when you compare them with almost every photo of a top end restoration. They are poorly shaped with bad lines and wrong dimensions which is a complete pain when I can't exactly return them and paid to have them professionally fitted which is all for nothing now.  The lines aren't smooth and don't quite follow the body line, the engine callout section is too large to be spaced properly on the body (even when you trim the excess gaps) and they are too long, finishing almost 1.5" past the door handle when they should line up with them. The engine callout is the wrong font and the numbers are too narrow and don't line up with the edges of the stripe.

They were cheap and you get what you pay for.  I know some of you were happy with his product and given that these stripes came from an alternate supplier that he says he uses? (Joe H), maybe there is an explanation but I now have to buy the stripes again and pay to have them fitted a second time.

Wow OZ  I can definatly see the difference.  Sorry to hear about your time loss and the extra cost.  I wonder if you got a bad kit or if they are all made with these differences built in them. But if they are guaranteed to be as originals, he may refund your money with these pictures you posted...good luck

I would just get back with ChallengerGary and see what is what.  Im sure its an honest mistake.

  Sorry Oz, but unless there was no attempt by Gary or his supplier to correct this I feel your post is out of line, and since there was no prior "discussion" made public  I assume this to be your first posting about this, why was it neccessary to go puiblic? and if they were not of your liking, why attempt to install them to begin with?  Sorry, I'm not saying you don't deserve answers etc. just feel this is wrong way to go about any kind of resoulation.

I know going public and having a whinge is probably in poor taste but I did email Gary when I first noticed the sizing issue and he told me that thats how the factory ones were and trimming the excess gap between the segments would correct the problem which just wouldn't work as the decal seems to be 105-110% of the dimensions it should be.  Service from Gary was fine but there was no point in trying to get a replacement as a supplier doesn't exactly have different types of these in stock - the next set would be exactly the same (according to my installer, the break in the lines is likely due to his scanning methods).  If I just asked for my money back and didn't post, then somone else here would buy these stripes and suffer the same grief (I recall someone else posting on here in the past about AAR stripes from the same supplier in which the AAR decal was layered vinyl instead of printed - not exactly factory as they were assured).

I realise outing somone who may otherwise be a good member of the board is a bit drastic but I was assured on several occaisions that they were exact factory reproductions and when compared to the factory diagrams this is obviously not true.  The engine callout numbers just appear to be a sufficiently close font rather than a scan of an original stripe.  Apologies to Gary and maybe I should have contacted him again off-line but when I oulayed $100 to have someone come to my house to fit them, I'd already been burnt.  As I indicated in my first post, the stripes arrived from a different company name and person than Gary who I placed the order through so he may well have subcontracted out the making of some of the stripes.  If this is the case then he really needs to check on the quality and methods of his suppliers and hopefully come up with a better product and then everyone will be happy.

Guys, I'm with OZ on this to some degree.  He is only looking out for our best interest.  I re read his post, and he isn't bashing Gary, he is just letting us see what he got delivered to him and what was expected to be delivered.

OZ is into detail to the extreme as everyone can relate to by his car. He was assured it would be an exact factory match and it wasn't.

Gary knows about the stripe not being right. And Oz did say it didn't come from Gary. It came from someone else. 

Anyone who has installed the stripe kits knows you can't peel the back and look very easy.  They are applied wet then the paper pulled off. Then you get the suprise of seeing it. Can you imagine what OZ felt like paying a guy 100 bucks to install factory correct guarranteed stripes and this shows up?  He was just letting the purists know that they need to do a bit more research before commitment.


I am quite sure Gary may reply to this post as OZ is probably hoping, and explain the circumstances.  I don't see a bashing going on here myself, and would assume Gary will get it worked out and settled.  Plus I am sure Gary will have some questions for his supplier to answer then probably make another post explaining the mishaps his supplier did. Gary seems like he is more interested in helping with supply and demand for our hobbies . Not just to put money in his pockets.
