The argent on my grill and tail panel matches my 71 Rally center caps.  :clueless: Maybe 71 grills used a different argent than 70?

Glad I could stir the pot some more.  :stirpot:

  Mike

Mike, these two original bezels, one a 70 and one a 71, look very close in color when next to each other. Did you paint yours?

I have had 2 71 Challengers and I looked at one my brother in law had, they all had the medium argent on the tail and grille.

You think? I didn't think they came in that color.  :dunno: I thought it is a medium argent for the grill and tail. Is it right that they used 3 argent colors, light argent (70 wheel centers), medium argent (grills and tail panels) and dark argent (71 wheel centers)?

I have some dark argent paint now... Thanks Russ, now I am realy confused...  :bricks1:

Dave

My bad, i was going modified for a minute there by matching the shade of argent on the grille/tail panel to the shade used on the 71 Ralye wheel centers.  :bricks1:

Actually I think medium argent would look pretty good against purple

Here are some grilles.  The one in the front has never been repainted.  The second grille is an original R/T grille.  Note that it has argent silver under the grille centers.  The third grille back is also factory and looks darker.  The silver is faded on it.  Since the silver is over black plastic , when faded, it may become darker. The 4th grille back someone tried unsucessfully to make a R/T grille.  The last one is untouched and looks like the first one.  I hope it helps. Maybe I just muddied the waters.  I am using the front grille on my purple 71 convertible.  I like it with the dark color.  It brightens things up.

Dave,

We are getting somewhere here. Just stick with me.  My headlight bezels are NOS. Paid thru the you know what for them.  :eek7: I painted my grill with the dark argent paint from "Totallyauto". It matches perfectly. I think there is just a "light", and "dark" argent, as E-Bodies go. Just my opinion.   :2cents:

Got a can of dark argent from them at Carlisle. So you are saying just use that? I am thinking argent grill and tail panel now.

I just dug out the grilles pictured again.  I have 2 71 grilles that were painted from Chrysler that are 2 different silvers.  One is light the other is dark.  Maybe it was changed mid year.  The light one matches the 71 Rallye wheel centers.  The dark one matches the 70 wheel centers.  All my 70 grilles match the 70 Rallye wheel centers.  Since your car came with the 72 style bumpers and was a late 71 car, I would guess it came with the light textured silver.  If I were you I would paint it the textured silver you like.  Both seem to be correct for 71.

I prefer the blacked out grille.  Looks better IMO with the center being argent and such.  But that's me.

Thanks guys, big time. I think the argent rear panel is a done deal. I just like it better with the body color above it instead of blacked out. It looks cleaner IMO. I could still go with black up front, but I think the argent will look cleaner up front too.
