Hey, I'm gonna be a mountain man
« on: July 27, 2007 - 09:27:06 PM »
I gotta drive up to Helena Montana this weekend for 2 weeks with weekends off.  Going to work on a cement kiln for Ashgrove cement. Another 900 degree shell. So I will be cooked to well done by the time I'm finished. Any volcanos I need to worry about. I know I am bear food out there.

I don't own a Hawkeye rifle like Jerimiah Johnson. I do know it is beautiful country.

Any members around there?  I'm going sight seeing. My company gives me free fuel :clapping:

Yes, it is real beautiful country out there - my wife and I have vacationed there several times. In a couple weeks, I'll be in Cody, WY for a few days ( just a hop, skip, and jump from you - in western distances, that is ), but you'll be gone by then, it sounds like. Enjoy the scenery!

Big Sky Country...you have to love driving for 4 hours nonstop on a straight 2 lane highway running over prairie dogs (rats) and other road kill..lots of open road...I really enjoyed it ..glacier Nat park is really nice, but way north from Helena

I have been to Yellostone National Park in the winter and it was Beautiful!!  Too bad it is over 100 miles southeast of you.  Have a safe weekend, and be careful with that kiln.  :2thumbs:

You will have a hard time finding a more beautiful part of the country. Enjoy your time there. If you are driving and will come close to Fargo let me know, it would be nice to hookup.

I've driven through Montana twice. Some nice views but I started thinking I would never get out. Those 2 lane roads go FOREVER!

When I went several years ago, some of the main roads did not have a speed limit during the day, to bad I was too young to drive.

I used to live just outside of missoula in a little town called huson.  (actually outside of that one too, just they didn't have a post office in the mountains.....) Absolutely love it up there.  It's definately Big Sky Country.  Theres no way to describe it, but the sky does seem bigger.  Ya'll that have been there know what I mean.  I always called it gods country.  Enjoy it when your not working!

500 miles later------I'm here now in Helena Montana.  I always enjoy driving through this state. Now I'm here for 2 weeks to call my home for now. When I leave out, I go through wyoming then around Sturgis SD then to Sioux city, then kansas city, St Louis, Paduka ky, Nashville, Birmingham. Gonna be a long drive home, thank goodness I get free fuel, food and motels. I may go sight seeing tomorrow, I got my digital charging up.

Isn't chryco kinda close to me? I'm like 150 miles from canada, and maybe in his area. I see a lot of Alberta tags around here. And alot of old clean cars.

Oh you're so right. I am from Sand Mountain. Right now i'm in Helena Montana. 20 mile from me there is 31,000 acres on fires and it is makeing my job harder trying to work with the smoke burning my eyes and nose.  Home in 2 weeks though :2thumbs:
