Would they be that cheap?
« on: July 28, 2007 - 11:42:06 AM »
Let me give you a little backround on my title of this post...  :blah:

Any picture I've ever seen of a crate HEMI from MP has a chrome themostat housing. ...???  :grinyes: So on this premise, I would say that comes with the motor (1000 pardons if you got one without it).  Now we also know how much $$$ these go, for 14-15K and up depending on the cubic inches.....

So here's my RANT!  :stomp:

Nikki has had a seep (sort of a leak) around the base of the thermostat housing as long as I've had her. I was cleaning up a few other things and figured a new gasket was in order. I take off the housing to clean it up. First thing I see embossed on the inside is TAIWAN  ... I thought you cheap  :swear: on a 15K motor!!! WTF  :banghead:  And of course when I put a straight edge to it, the botton looks like a half moon!

I took a file to it and made it much better... although still not FLAT. If I only had a surface grinder. what a  :dogpile:

Goody answered this same question for me earlier this year. Got rid of the chrome housing and picked up a $6 iron one at Advance and no more problem.

I tossed the chrome one out 30 yrs ago and never looked back. You'd think that someone would get it right by now :villagers:
