Textured paint for dash
« on: July 28, 2007 - 11:48:57 PM »
I am painting the lower plastic pieces for my Cuda dash and I gather there should be a textured surface.  Can anyone recommend which type of paint I need for this.

Thanks.

You mean the dash corners?.... What car, and what color is the dash? Those pieces have their texture.....the factory used a low-gloss or suade version of the color... check this out....these are old codes, but you can have them cross referenced with new ones...these pages should help on your whole interior...

I just had Dupont mix their version of "Jewel Black"....you can see it here:

It did come out with a slight grainy texture on my steering column... I think on the dash you'd want low gloss...those lists above should tell you for sure...

if you like what is on my steering column, its Dupont- chroma black 4428....it's supposed to be the code for jewel black....the link is above for pics of this...
it's like a textured black, and has a slight sheen to it...looks good on the column....not sure if its good for the dash though..not a dark black...?isnt this color stuff hard! cant wait to start restoring my bright blue interior! yeesh!

Wouldn't the SEM vinyl paint work well on the plastic pieces?

Rudy
Glad to hear it's not just me.I have been working hard to try and duplicate the texture finish that is on these dash parts(which actually looks more like a wrinkle finish)and the color and sheen are a whole other disaster. The Clown

That heater control panel looks really good.  I have one that is showing the same mottling on the front as your 'before' picture and so far TSP and a toothbrush have no effect.  What did you use for cleaning and prep of the visible plastic?

Thanks!
