To answer your question, take your vacuum advance line off the distributor, and plug it so air doesn't get sucked into your carb. At that point, a good initial advance would be in the 12-14* BTDC range. To get your total advance, plug the vacuum advance line back up to the distributor, and increase the idle to the 2500-3000RPM range(might require ear plugs). If you have a timing light with a knob that will allow you to adjust the timing, you can figure out what the total advance is... somewhere around 36* is a good start. You may have to tinker to get to the best point for your engine.
