    Just got the engine back into the car, and started it up..   :working:

    But,,,  What am I gonna set the ignition timing - And with or without vacuum..???

    Sorry to rant,

      To answer your question, take your vacuum advance line off the distributor, and plug it so air doesn't get sucked into your carb. At that point, a good initial advance would be in the 12-14* BTDC range. To get your total advance, plug the vacuum advance line back up to the distributor, and increase the idle to the 2500-3000RPM range(might require ear plugs). If you have a timing light with a knob that will allow you to adjust the timing, you can figure out what the total advance is... somewhere around 36* is a good start. You may have to tinker to get to the best point for your engine.

    Sorry about that. What I mean by tinker is this... at idle you will notice a sweet spot when you turn your distributor to a certain setting. A spot where the idle seems highest. That might be the right spot, but in my case, I needed to retard it a few degrees because it "pinged" when I drove it.

    Best performance IMO , no vacuum to distributor and 34 degrees on the 340..
    Like Mike said, just make sure you don't have a pinging problem...

    I dont have a adjustible timing ligth, - at idle it go the smoothest at 18 - 20 btdc..???  I ended up at abouth 12-14, and can live with the rough idle....

    cowboy , I would either buy or borrow a adjustable timing light that way you can set it up right and tune it for what the engine wants... 34 degrees would be 2 3/8" from TDC.........
