I would clear coat the tank with semi gloss , the galvanizing on the repro tanks dosen`t seem to hold up like the factory
Spectra makes a prefect repro tank
DO NOT paint the tank black , I Have encountered problems with the fuel boiling inside black tanks & causing all kinds of vapor lock & power loss problems

MEK, I'm pretty sure the tank on the car is original. It still has the undercoating that matches the surrounding sheetmetal. The car has 4 vent tubes including the one that runs up to the valve cover breather. Also a non-vented filler cap, so it must be a California emissions vehicle. As for the price you are right. Napa wanted $480 for a tank from Balkamp or something. He could't tell me exactly. :dunno:

Chryco, thanks for the tip! I will clear coat and possibly spray a little under coating prior to installing the tank. I think a little overspray wouldn't cause to much heat build up?? Now the question about the insulation between the tank and trunk floor. Just tar paper?

you can use tar paper or closed cell foam tar paper is too thin , the factory used something like tar paper but it was 1/8 " thick , it i sjust to keep the tank from rubbing the body , sqeaking etc & you cannot see it once it is installed , the thing is what ever you use must not absorb water or the tank & body will rust

I'm just curious if this is what you have. Yes, the 70 model had a non-vented gas cap.

That looks like it MEK, it has the 4 vent tubes but the picture is from the top so can say for sure. That particular tank is probably the Tiawan made unit based on the price. I just order one from Adeals ($169) and the rep. assured me it was a Spectra Industries tank. I also bought a new sender along with stainless steel fuel, and brake lines. They should be here sometime next week. I'm in uncharted waters here but hopefully, will be saying :woo:

Now I need to find new straps and a filler neck grommet.
