Where does this end? Why dont i just Re-stamp a 440, and 727 and have macthing #s also.  If your build sheet, or tag is gone, its gone. Does anyone else agree? I just found this out, so i am way behide the power curve.

There are stories of peoples fendertag(s) being stolen at shows. I have decided to keep my slightly rusted original and have a repo made to go back on the car. Even the repos aren't exact and can be figured out.

I do think people should say they are repos when selling a car or showing it, but that doesn't always happen and thats most of the problem.

As long as there is money in it people will figure out a way to do it.

That being said, it's fun to spot the fakes

I see nothing wrong with having a fender tag made, as long as you state it is a repro.  Whats wrong with that?   :dunno:

I don't have a problem with it. It's just another reproduction item like quarters, fenders mirrors, etc. Where would we be if none of our rusted out stuff was being reproduced. Some of the re-pop stuff even has the pentastar and part numbers on them now. However, as said before, just let people know that it's not original and most will know anyway.

Fender tag and BS is really not important, the VIN is what is important.

I'm in the same position.  I have a build sheet but no tag.  I'll have a tag made according to the buildsheet in order to restore the car.

I in the same boat with no data plate or build sheet for my 70 Barracuda conv. What a shame the previous owner removed them and then lost them. The car has a few cool options, but without proof, who's to say what's right. So, I'm just having a date plate made up that says "RECREATION BY L. A. MILLER RESTORATIONS". It's still a Barracuda Conv. :2thumbs:
