Repop Battery Tray, what gives??

I just got a new reproduction battery tray kit from year one.  Says it fits 70-71 B-Body and 70-74 E body cars, but it does not line up with the holes on my 73 challengers inner fender.  I can bolt the "pointy" end up to the radiator support, but the bracket doesn't line up with the hole on the battery tray.  Argh! 

Did i get the wrong part?  I got the b724 kit:

I'm half tempted to just drill new holes where I need them, but not if I can get the part I actually need....

I think you need kit FD752. I know the battery hold down in the earlier years was different with the "J" hooks, so the tray itself might be different too.

If your talking about the brace from the bottom is there any chance you have it upside down...

Also I recently had my OE tray/brace off to paint, when I went to put them back I was having some difficulty, I loosened all the bolts so I could manipulate the tray till all were started.

Thanks for the replies, I've tried fitting it with all the bolts loose, and I think Ive tried fitting the bracket every which way possible, but the holes in the tray are just nowhere near where they need to be for everything to line up.

If i need that other kit, Id rather drill this repo, than pay the extra 60 bucks... argh.

A reminder on drilling into the box. Notice the bolt heads are sunken lower then where the battery rides. Don't set your battery on a bolt head

You'll have to drill a hole for the lower bracket and fill the one in if you're worried about originality. But I always leave it in cause it's covered by the battery. I always get ticked about repop stuff that's poorly researched and engineered especially for what some of this stuff costs just cause it's for a Mopar.

Thanks for the advise guys.  I bit the bullet and drilled my repo battery tray, so it looks just like fishn4Cuda's, 'cept black.  The j-bolt line right up and the battery stays put pretty well when everything is tightened down.   

Now... to find a battery that ain't dead....

I just patched up my original tray. It had a few bad spots, but I glassed them and coated both sides with Rust Stop Paint. It feels fine now....
