1980's Reborn?
« on: August 06, 2007 - 07:01:48 PM »
So the last few days me and a few friends were talking about the cars we had back in the mid-late 80's.  And since everyone is doing a fully restored car or a period car ie rat rods, 50's greaser style, ect.........And i was thinking why not bring back the muscle car look everyone had back then.  I know it really dosent seem that long ago to some of us but really it has been.  Thats when muscle cars were affordable, and every kid seem to have one.  With way to skinny tires in the front and wide enough out back so thay would touch the fender lip.  Air shocks, loud crappy stero's, turbo mufflers, big hood scoops and the rear windows covered with parts decals.  I mean thats when i fell in love with my cuda and gotten bitten by the mopar bug.  Any thoughts?

Yep, now that ya mention it, that is one of them oxythingys, the closest thing to muscle around that time would maybe be a Super coupe, but they too were "has beens", right? But there were plenty of Caraveles and Caravans right?

Everyone I knew had a musclecar of some sort in the 80's. 64 El Camino 350 4-speed, 66 El Camino 350, my car, 63 300 long ram 413, 68 Camaro 350 4-speed - this was just on the court where I lived. 66 455 GTO, 64 GTO, 71 Trans Am 455 4-speed, 67 327 Camaro, 68 396 Chevelle, 70 El Camino 396 4-speed, 65 Mustang 289, 68 GTO 400, 70 442 455, 69 Hurst Olds 455, 69 Mustang 351, 66 Mustang 302, 68 Cutlass 350, 65 442 Convertible 4-speed, 68 Firebird 326, 68 Firebird 400, 69 Cougar XR-7 302 4speed, 70 AMX 390, 64 Nova 283.

That pretty much covers my circle of friends at the time. Very few people I knew from back then that didn't have a musclecar or didn't street race.
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

Are you talking about doing a car with N-50-15's, Cragar SS's, Fender flares, and Thrush Turbos mufflers, that you drive downhill all the time??

He's talking of modifying a Challenger in the way they were modified in the 80's.

yes thats what my block was like in my little midwestern town.......70 el camino, 69 chevelle, 66 mustang, 70 rt challenger, 67 mustang, 63 409 impala, 69 camaro, 70 superbird all with in about 8 houses of each other.  We were all about the same age and theres only one guy besides me that still has their car.  I dont know just thinking back brings back alot of memories and on occasion at a local cruise night or small town car show you still see a car that looks like they did back then.
