I can tell already that I'm going to like this place.
Background:
My first car was a Mopar Musclecar in the non-traditional sense. Ex-cop car. 1980 St. Regis. 360 4bbl, dual exhaust, limited slip rear. Sure it had 4 doors but considering what Detroit had to offer back then, it was a nice compromise for a kid. Had I swapped in a set a headers it would have really screamed.
I've been a car-guy since I was a kid. As a matter of fact, I boycotted Dukes after the 3rd season when I learned how many Chargers were destroyed in making the show. At least now I can watch the reruns guilt-free.
Anyway, I have a unique situation. Being several thousand miles away I can't work on my own car. But I have befriended a local who is building a 1970 Challenger. You gotta give the guys in Europe huge props for taking on projects like this. We think we have difficulty finding parts and shops that know older cars, but this is a whole new ballgame.
Right now he is tackling the rust issue. The car needs a lot more than was expected. This is not my forte, but we are starting to plan for the engine and suspension work.
Have to admit, although I have worked on many makes, I have the least experience in Mopars. Unfortunately all the "generic" magazines don't seem to give them their dues. Seems like they cover everything but. So I will probably ask some really basic questions specific to mopars from time to time. I hope you guys will patience with me.
The nice thing about it is I don't have to spend my own money. Sadly, it won't me mine
Regardless I am excited. I get a taste of home life, new experience, and the joy of wrenching.
Our goal is to keep it looking mostly stock, but improve the suspension and engine to make it fun both on country roads and the Autobahn. It is a Challenger SE 383 2bbl with a non-original block and 4bbl engine.
Also, if any of you have experience dealing with the German TÜV please let me know.
