What u-joints are you running?
« on: August 08, 2007 - 05:51:45 PM »
After suffering serious problems with my drive shaft and diff I decided to upgrade from the little 7260 u-joints (anybody want a brand new 7260 drive shaft?).  The 7290 didn't seem much bigger so I went with the 1350's.  I ordered a new rear yoke and slip yoke but don't have the drive shaft ordered up yet. Is this a mistake?  I just read that the rear u-joint should be the first thing to break. I'm not sure what my 'weak link" will be now but I'm hoping it's tire traction.  The car is mainly street with some minor strip work anticipated.  I'm not sure I will even buy drag radials.
I was wondering what everybody else runs.  The engine is about 460 bhp flywheel (est) and it's a 4 speed.

I don't know all years but on a 70 Cuda small block 7260 front and 7290 rear.  I'm running spicer brand, about a year old now and no issues.  What happened to your driveshaft that makes you want to upgrade that beefy?

Make sure you do not get a u-joint with a grease fitting in "the cross" (one on the cap is fine) that's where they will want to break. :grinyes:

I hope this isn't a problem with the 1350's.  The powertrain shops seem to have no idea about these u-joints.  Who makes them?  All I can find is Spicer.
