It will work, but (if I understand all of this properly) there are several levels of visas, and when you get to the levels that allow you to stay for an extended period or work they get increasingly hard to come by.

I just know if the local law get hold of an illegal alien, & calls the feds to come get them they are told to let them go.....feds don't have time/care to handle the average illegal and the state can't afford to jail or prosecute.

I have a US work Visa but they are hard to come by.  As far as I can recall there are a few different types.  You can get one if you work for a company and have specialized knowledge about their software, etc.  You have to work their at least 1 year. 2) some professions like engineering and medical are permitted 3) If you are in high level mgmt for a company who has Canadian and US operations.  Otherwise the doors are closed.  I still had to pay a lawyer to prepare the documents and jump through the hoops at the US immigration office.  We have a US office which really helped otherwise I don't think I would of got through.  It is difficult for US citizens to work in Canada too.  Another guy in the office told me his buddy married an American woman and has waited over a year for a work visa.  He can't get a driver's license either.

This just seems so typical these days. My Dad talked to a guy that was originally from Canada. He wanted to go and fight in Vietnam, so he came down and paid $400 bucks to be able to go over there and become a citizen.

this is bull sh!t, this board (  and my friends ) has went through hell this past few months. CudaGuy has to deploy again for the third time, Chris and Laura split, and now CP is splitting the North American continent. I am truly and totally depressed..................to hell with work tomorrow, I'm going to drink until I fall asleep. Chryco, it's a shame you can't legally get into the states while many illegals are possibly going to get U.S. citizenship in the near future.   Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Neil, call my company in Iowa-1800 831 0876  tell them you have a friend working there in grinding-me- ask them for the canadian home office number. tell them you want to learn how to grind. You will work world wide.  Ask for Jeff Bertness in Iowa, he is my manager. A helper/trainee averages 700 a week bring home, plus room and travel, plus 210 a week for food. Not much, I know, but in 1.5 years your pay goes up considerably. I just got back from Helena Montana. wish we could of met up. I drove 2100 miles home.   You can come stay here visiting at my house. free room and board, I'll loan you my car to drive to Iowa for an interview for the job if need be. It's the best I can offer you. I heard our CEO wednesday on the phone talking on the phone getting US visa's for some other out of country people to work for us. ALAN

Neil and I have discussed this before. He is weighing all of his options. I am just buying him time for his decissions is all. We have companies in like 5 or 6 countries, so he has some options to play with.
