NEED HELP IDENTIFYING 426 HEMI BY THE NUMBERS
« on: August 10, 2007 - 12:42:58 AM »
:drama:  :feedback: I have what I believe to be a 1969 426 hemi from a coronet or a charger. But there seems to be some conflicting info between the engine casting number and the engine block boss numers. Any and all help will be so greatly appreciated. The right side of the engine block casting number reads 2468330-1. The left side block casting number reads 2468330-1 with a date code 10-7-68. Now here's the kicker. The pad on the front of the engine block has only 4 symbols. Looking at the engine from the grill in the lower left corner is WT in large letters. In the center of the pad is an upside down 1 and in the 3 0'clock position of the pad is another 1 stamped sideways with the top of it pointing to the center of the pad. Now here is the real confusing part. On the lower right side of the block is the Numbers matching pad with these numbers 9A215434. Decode the first two digits and you get 1969 and the plant it was built in. The thing I don't get is the lack of info on the top pad. No cid no date. HELP!!!

According to 'Big-Block Mopar Performance' by Chuck Senatore on pages 4-5, 2468330 is the casting number for 64-71 426; WT indicates water test. Anyone else have any ideas about the lack of a date stamp on the front pad? :clueless:

With the Hemi and 440 engines, if the intake surface was ever milled some of the numbers could have been milled away?

The Lynch Road plant did not build Chargers in 1969 if that helps narrow your search down some.

Thank you very much for the info. Does anyone know a Hemi Guru or a Hemi web site to contact about more information and history on this matter. :bananasmi  :lol2: :woohoo:
