I am getting ready to rebuild the front end on my 74 cuda and was planning on using poly on most of the parts except for the upper control arms.I heard that moog makes a offset one that helps give you better camber!!

Are you referring about the Moog problem solvers? They're mainly used when your alignment specs are maxed out.

Negative caster is typically unstable and should be avoided if possible. You should try for as much static positive caster as possible to stay in positive caster through more wheel travel. After installation, it's necessary to rotate the eccentric bolts a little further back to re align it The offset bushings called problem solvers, Moog  pn K7103 can be ordered thru most auto parts. Use these if your car is already on the inside edge of the adjustment range.

Anyone tried Clearlyauto .com?

They have lots of original Moog parts and the prices are some the lowest I have seen as is their shipping. Imagine rotors for $38.00...  Never had shipping take more then 4 days.

Hey Topcat.....

What about if you dont know what your alignment specs are?   Never had thealignment done before and am now rebuilidng front end.

I think I am going with Moog stuff from Rock and they have the eccentic uppers, pt #k7103 "offset bushing"....I assume these are the "problem solvers" ?

Would it hurt to buy the ecentric "problem solvers" so as to have the xtra margin of adjustment? Easier to install them now than redo it all later to get that extra adjustment....

Or is this not a good plan?

If you're re building your whole front end suspension, then you shouldn't need the Moog problem solver kit. For alignment, get it as close as you can then drive or tow the car to an alignment shop near you.

Adjust your out tie rod ends so that wheels are straight of course. Use a string. Measure outer edge to outer edge in front of the tire and back behind it. That'll tell you if your toe'd in or out.

I am replacing all the bushings etc with Moog stuff

-  upper and lower control arm bushings
- strut rod bushings (using improved style)
- upper and lower balljoints

also replacing the steering box and idler/pitman arms while I am under there.

One strut rod has a bow to it so I may have to replace that.

Why do they offer the problem solver stuff?  I figured it was because the lower control arm or upper arms, etc could be out of whack a little....figured it would be cheaper on the long run to install at least the offset upper control arm bushings so the extra camber adjustment is there if its needed...wasnt sure about the adjustable upper balljoints....

The Moog problem solvers are when your cam bolts and/or front end is worn and you just want to fix the alignment problem. I suppose if you were going to set up the suspension for track and needed a ton of camber offset, the Moog solver kit would be a possible option to consider. For street, I don't believe you really need it. If you recall in another thread, Shelbydogg wrote:

Yeah, I saw that page when I was there looking at steering boxes.....

The way I read that, the 70-74 e body strut bushing dimensions is what they based the poly strut bushings on....an issue for the older B bodies and the a bodies....but doesnt that mean they should be fine for e bodies?

I am going with moog strut rod bushings.....they arent rubber, they arent polygraphite or polyeurethane..they are something else...I am getting the "improved design" ones...wonder if the rod length will still be an issue?

Thats a lot of scratch for a couple of rods...LOL

What does an oem rod run to replace? Havent found them on Rock yet.....Mancini has the thicker steel ones but they are pricey too...

Not sure if its been posted in this thread but put the part numbers in Amazon's search, I've had great success buying parts from them and being very cheap, no tax and no shipping!

will do this package to anyone on this board for slightly less than what i would get to my local shops.  389.00 complete.  can also offer a house brand version of the same kit that would have a moog idler and strut rod bushings and cam bolt kit. the rest of the stuff would be standard stuff for 275.00 complete for all.

Sorry maybe I missed it but what year and car is this for engine model etc?

 Not that I am aware of , you need to go to Hotchkiss , XV or another after market co to get the bars

summit still sells the lower controll arm in polt but they dont work right , the uppers are only available and the lower is discontinued and summit is selling out the lowers .
very noisy . dont like the feel of the lower installation.

the offset uppers bushings are a benfit you can definatly get more caster with them & some of the cars end up with little or no caster by the time you get the camber right
