    TTI headers and your suspension

    Looks like I'm having some issues with clearance in the convertible.  After the recent trip to the NATS last weekend, I knew I had a problem.  I will get better pics tomorrow when it gets light but these should give you an idea.  

    Anyone else have this issue with TTI headers on their 440??

    You are the only person I have seen have this issue , possibly bad mounts

    I thought TTI's were suposed to be the best.  We've had no problems at all with ours on the 340.

    That looks like the passenger side.  :dunno:  Could your idler arm be bent?  :clueless:

    So I took the car to a local friend who does suspensions and things for some 20+ years and we came to the conclusion that it is not anything to do with the car,  the header just doesn't fit and hits the top of the idler arm . . . alot!  The only solution that we could come up with is to get a different header that fits properly.   :banghead: 


    Sometimes the problems just never end.   :crying:

    Dave,

      Are your front suspension parts stock, or did you go aftermarket there? I'm just curious why you are the lucky one here.  :poopoke: For what TTI's cost, they sure should fit like a glove.

    I AGREE...That why I am wondering if there is a cheaper alternative...
    if they didnt fit I could just cut 'em and modify them with a little two inch tubing... much simpler than creating from scratch.

    At this point I'm not sure where I'm headed with this . . . I'm going to talk to my exhaust guy that did my 3" on the hardtop.  Maybe he can do something to help.  

    Maybe TTI has run into this before??

    Schumacher makes (or did anyway) very nice engine mount shims for their sandwich type engine mounts. http://engine-swaps.com/

    Make sure the rubber in the mount hasnt squished under the weight of the engine over time. Also, try loosening both mounts (the cross bolt on each side) and move the engine so it's centered between the mount pads on the K frame. You can ususally "float" things around a bit. If the drver's side was on first, the pass side may have fallen deeper into the "V". Also, if your idler arm or pitman arm have any up and down travel, replace it. It looks like it might, and it's not supposed to.

    Thanks for the advice.  The motor mounts are new and look to be in good shape still as is the front end.  I had everything checked out at my local shop for problems before I posted for help.  Definitely a problem that I need to tackle.   :walkaway:

    In the chassis book it speaks of potential header tube interference in this area. The solution is to remove the idler, die grind the hole in the bracket until it is oblong. Check fit the idler until you have sufficient clearance. Once you have position you like, you weld a washer on to the idler mount to fix the new position. Then shim the steering box so your center link is equally positioned vertically as the new location of the idler.

    Sounds like a headache to me...TTI says the headers I am getting will not work with aftermarket fast ratio pitman and something about aftermarket idler arm as well..... but I would definatley call TTI on this one.....

    • Will not clear the quick-ratio extended length pitman arm and the idler arm
