Best Deal on Headers for 440 w/PS ??
« on: August 12, 2007 - 10:39:49 PM »
I have Schumacher Headers already. They are chrome and nice looking but they seem a little small...\

The 440 I bought is a mild street engine...

I like long-tube headers but don't know if I can afford TTI headers. It seems most people say that TTI headers fit best with no clearance issue with PS. Can you guys give me any suggestions:

1. Are the Schumacher's big enough to flow well?

2. Are there any other bolts on's that would work without modification?

Well TTi are too much $$$ but nothing fits as well & will not burn up spark plug wires etc
I feel the Schumaker headers are restrictive

I have a 440 with P/S and also have TTI. They are alot of money  but they fit real well and there is no leaks.(Also you can still get to your starter) When i bought the car it had a set of cheapies on it and removal of the starter was a gigantic PAIN.... I have bought cheap headers on other vehicles in the past  and i was told that due to the thinner flanges they are very hard to get to not leak. However the TTI fit well and are easy to install.

I always liked the idea of the Schumacher's, though I thought they were expensive too, aren't they?  Also, aren't they supposed to be able to be used with stock exhaust pipes?

Yes,  they are fairly expensive.. and allow access to the starter and P/S... but I like the way long-tubes look. It dont have any exhaust now so I am going to have to get all of it made anyway.

The set of headers I have now are Hedman's. Part# 78030. This is the second set I've put on. The first set wasn't ceramic coated, and gave me a hot foot after an hour on the hiway.  :22yikes: Even if you buy them ceramic coated from Jet-Hot, they are about half the price of TTI's. The only thing I had to do was do a little hammering to the middle 2 tubes on the driver's side to get them around the power steering box. It wasn't that big of a deal, and I always enjoy swinging a hammer.  :misbehaving: If interested, I can snap a pic for you.

MEK - yes thanks.. please take a pic if possible. I don't want to have a banged up set of headers after spending so much time and money on everything else...but maybe it's not that bad.  :picture:
