What type of paint do you use Dave?  That looks awesome.   :2thumbs:

Steve, this is Dupli-Color silver wheel coating. The first grill I used Totally Auto "grille silver", but I like the WP101 silver Dupli-Color better. The "dark argent" is from Totally Auto on both grilles.

Just got the first coat of the dark argent on this one...

Thanks Russ, I think this one will be the one I use on the purple car. It is turning out better than the first grille.  :cooldancing:

What did you use to repair the plastic tabs?

What did you use to repair the plastic tabs?

I used an epoxy paste called PC-7, got it at Home Depot. Ryan (Devil) recomended the PC-7 and it works great. It can be shaped and sanded very easy and is very strong after curing. I used a small piece of aluminum flashing to make a backing for the epoxy. I finished with a dremel tool to cut the slot in the tab.

I used these paints for my Grille.

Ryan

Ryan, how does the dark Krylon stuff look when compaired to the original "dark argent" color? I need more paint and hate to pay the $$$ :money: for the Totally Auto stuff. Thanks.

I have nothing nice enough to compare it too.  I've heard it is nearly an identical match.  Here is what I read about to choose it.

I did the same thing, metal backing and made all new tabs where the broken ones were.

Those are great repair jobs. I've been watching this too for tips. My Cuda's lower valance is cracked so I think I'll try and find that PC-7 stuff. I have a question though, would the Krylon, or Dupli-Color silver wheel coating or just plain silver paint be the most correct color to repaint it.

Thanks in Advance...John

Thanks John, for the cracks dremel a "V" out of the back side so the epoxy has something to stick to. If it is a big crack I would put a small piece of aluminum on the back side also. I am going to try the Krylon pain that Ryan recomended. I am out of the dark argent from Totally Auto. I will let you know what I think of it. The Dupli-color is not a match for the dark argent or the silver. I have both, and the Dupli-color "graphite" is too dark IMO.

Not a grille but it is done... Pics of a 71 tail panel painted in Totally Auto "dark argent" and Dupli-Color silver...

Ok this is the run down. Grille #1 is Totally Auto "dark argent" and Totally Auto "grille silver". Grille #2 is Totally Auto "dark argent" ( I am out of BTW, and it needs a second coat) and Dupi-Color WP101 wheel paint (replacing the grille silver). The tail panel is Totally Auto "dark argent" and Dupi-Color WP101 wheel paint.

The Dupli-Color WP101 is not a perfect match to the Totally Auto "grille silver", it has more sparkle to it. But it did not cost as much either and I just like it better. So far I have used three paints, now I am going to try the Krylon for a replacement for the dark argent.

So what about a NON R/T grill and tail panel?  Would it be the lighter Krylon stuff?   :clueless:

I think Ryan was recomending the Krylon stuff for both colors. But the Totally Auto "grille silver" for the center would be the closest to the stock color without getting a pro to do the job IMO.

The can on the left would be light argent, stuff on left is dark argent.  NON-R/T tailpanel would get the left can.

Shoot some pics when it's done, see if mine came out alright.
