73 Challenger **Hey from Scotland!! Pics!

Hey Everyone!!

I'm Marko!! half Italian half Scottish! I recently bought this 73 Challenger out in Mexico... currently im in Scotland counting down the days till I go back to Mexico to settle till next year!

I bought it not knowing a lot about Challengers.. all I really know is that its black 4 speed and looks cool!! haha If anybody could shed some light on what engine it is and any other details about it that be great!

Also I wanna change the grill to a 70 grill.. has anyone done this? Or is it possible?

Great site and just want to say hi to everyone and if anyone wants some Fine Scottish Whisky let me know!

May-hee-ko eh?  Sounds like quite the adventure!  Definitely a cool car, black and a 4 speed, what else could you want?   

As far as the grill, its been done, but I dont know whats involved.  Its definitely not a bolt in deal though.

Hi Marko, Nice score on the Challey.....awe come on whats wrong with the '73 grille?!?!?  
    what brings you to ole Mexico?...........motor is a small block LA series, could be a 318 or 340 if original,  later model 360's are common replacements, have to check the #s on the side of the block to be sure.

the grille si a tough swap but can be done , the headlights are part of the fiberglass grile in 72-74 , so you need to weld in headlight buckets in the correct place on the fender to line up with the 70 grille & change hood latch etc to make it work

Hi Marko!  Welcome! 

Nice car you have there!  A lot can happen in 34 years.  Do you know if it's still the original block?  Do you have the fender tag?  From the VIN # if the 5th digit is an "H", you're looking at a 340.  If the VIN has a "G" as the 5th digit, then it's a 318.  "74s had a 360 in place of the 340.  Best to crawl under the car and check the casting numbers on the block.

Just by looking as you car sits in the pics, I would guess that it has a 340 as it has the rear valence cutouts, chrome exhaust tips, performance hood.  I don't think the 318s came with those.  The 340 could be had with out the Rallye option I believe.  I would think that your car is not a Challenger Rallye since it doesn't have the front fender louvers, but again, a lot could happen in 34 years.  Again, this is how your car sits.  If it has a "A57" code on the fender tag, then it has the Rallye option.  All '73 and '74 cars had "JH" as the first digits.  '70-'72 cars had "JS" for the R/T and Rallye cars.

Sorry if I missed but do you have the Rallye gauges?  4 round gauge pods of the same diameter?

Welcome to the site, Marko!  It looks like you found a nice car to start with.   As mentioned, it's hard to tell what LA style engine it is as it could be either a 318, 340, or 360. (If correct for the year it'd be either a 318 or the awesome 340 that got detuned after '72. (But can still be fun)

Welcome to the site and it looks like you found a pretty nice Challenger. It looks to be a 340 engine but you will have to check the side of the block to be sure.

Hi Everyone!!

Thanks for all your replies! I'm feeling really welcome here already... Sorry for the delay to reply. I'm counting down the days till I go back to Mexico hopefully within a month!

I found the car at the begining of the year from a friend of my girlfriend.... Although we've now split up at least I have the Challenger hahah!! I ended up in Mexico after meeting my Mexican girl in Pisa on a massive roadtrip in my Brittish Ford Capri 2.8i.  Being half Italian I was looking for an Italian girl, but ended up with a Mexican which opened up a whole bunch of new door!!

So thats my story in brief! I'll check the engine code as soon as I'm with my car again. Meantime thanks for all your help already and i'll keep everyone posted on how it goes!

Hi, Thanks! It's actually a '82 Capri it's the MkIII last generation of the Capri here and to me the best looking one!! This one looks more like an american muscle car! Sadly though it was envolved in a serious road accident in Italy shortly after my girlfriend went back to Mexico... hence with my pride and joy wrecked and having escaped death in my car I began a new chapter in my life starting in Mexico!!!
