Replacing roof or saving a little$ and patching instead.
« on: August 14, 2007 - 06:08:48 PM »
I have found a roof in reasonable shape for $1000. I know i can patch the rust through spots up for less than 50. in materials, but alot of time and effort. replacing the roof would take a lot less time but a lot more moolah. What do you guys think?

If you can do it for $50, keep what you have.  Putting on another complete roof opens a whole can of worms.

I agree.  Also $1000 for a roof is steep.  You can get a parts car for $1500 and recoup a good part of your money.  Prices have dropped right now.

Considering the cost, I would put in the elbow grease to save the original, if possible.

I agree, for that cost I would try to patch it myself first.

Got any pictures?

Fill it with fiberglass and put vinyl on!

Kidding, but I agree.  Do it yourself, and that way you know whats there.   :2thumbs:

Like everyone else said, patch it and save the money for elsewhere.  You have any shots of the roof?

I saw your other post about looking for a roof.  It is rusted back from the edge quite far.  If it were me, I would have it media blasted first to see just what you are working with.

If it is the front half you can use part of a Cuda roof to repair it.  The windshield area is the same. The front half is the same.  Even the front half of the drip rail moldings are the same.  Post a pic.  I didn't see your other post.

I appreciate all the input. For a $1000., i can do a lot of crying, and i don't mind the elbow grease. I am learning alot, and really want to do as much as i can. I am not to bad a welder either. I have learned something on the farm. I am almost done stripping it down, and then i was going to rent a media blaster and get it all cleaned up inside and out. So i can really see what needs to be replaced. I am intending on putting a vinyl back on it once i get done with paint and all.

From what I can see, I would rebuild your roof.

You need to buy this!!!!    :22yikes:

It's in the SF Bay Area, and we've got a few people on the board in the area, otherwise maybe you need to take a overnight bomber mission, fueled by Diet Rockstars and Pez?
