Hello everybody - Love the Site
« on: August 14, 2007 - 10:56:02 PM »
Hi everybody,
I have been a Mopar fan most of my life.  I have had quite a few in the past.  My Favorite was always my 70 ‘Cuda.  It was an original 440 six barrel, 18 spline 4 speed, 3.54 Dana car.  It was originally Plum Crazy, but had been painted B5 blue before I got it.  I drove that car to work every day in the late 80s, rain or shine.  I retired it about a year later after a fender bender with a minivan tweaked both fenders and the hood.  I rode in the backseat of my parents 1988 Olds Delta 88 4 hours with a pair of fenders for the car on my lap after scoring them from a junkyard while on a family vacation.

I ended up selling the car to help pay for college tuition.  I told myself I would get another one just like it if this college thing ever paid off.  Needless to say, the price of a 440 six pack Cuda rose much faster than my income did, even when college was clearly paying off.  I read all of the auto trader publications before Al Gore had perfected his internet.  Once all of the internet sites offering classic cars for sale popped up, I checked most of those on a daily basis.  Along came marriage, two beautiful (and expensive), daughters, and a couple of mortgages.

Along the way I still played with other cars, and most recently had been having a great time using a 69 GTO clone as a daily driver.  I managed to put several thousand miles on it because it was fun to drive, and was a clone anyway so I didn’t have to obsess about taking it through traffic.

This gave me a brilliant idea – why not get a barracuda and clone it into what I want.  That way I can Have what I want and hopefully keep the tab  reasonable (sort of).  The only problem was that I still had the previously mentioned daughters and remodeling projects which use up about 113% of my free time.  So I ended up buying a car which had started being cloned into a 440 Cuda.  Now all I needed to do is finish the job.  It is not perfect, but is starting to get there.  The plans include the addition of the six pack set up, and probably a shaker hood.  I am still unsure about a rear wing.

Sorry for the long post, but I had been lurking here and saw that this was more like a big family than a forum, so I figured everybody might want to know where I was coming from.

Beautiful car man, I had one just like that only with 340 hockey sticks. I miss that 'Cuda. Was my first E-body and I have wanted another BS car ever since. Good luck with the completion of your ride, it sure looks sweet as it is right now to me  :ylsuper:

Welcome to the site and what a nice looking Barracuda. Your choice of going the clone route is a great idea as you can drive it and do what you want with it knowing it is not a numbers matching 440 6 barrel. Keep us posted as you make the changes.

Hey there, sweet 'Cuda.   :2thumbs:

I'm sure someone with a decent amount of photoshop skill (not me) could put a wing on that first picture of yours.  I dont know if I would like it on there or not.  The thing is, either way it looks killer.   :grinyes: :smokin:

Welcome to the site!  Your 'Cuda clone looks very nice and was probably the better way to go as you won't be as worried about idiot drivers taking out an original 6 pack car.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I live in a small town near Milwaukee WI.  I only get to drive my toy cars for a few months a year, but I finally got my workshop finished and heated, so I will be able to work on them year round.

Does anybody have photos of a limelight Cuda with a wing?  I would love to see a few.
Thanks

Welcome. Your situation is probably more common than you realize. I was a Mopar freak, then family life became the first priority. I got back into it a few years ago, but now that college tuition is rearing it's ugly head, I may have to sell out again for a while. Oh well.
