Clones, Recreation, Tribute, is it real or a fake?
« on: August 15, 2007 - 01:26:49 PM »
The other day the guy painting my 71 Cuda asked me what I was going to call it, a clone, a recreation or a tribute car. I kind of looked at him at asked what he meant. He's one of those guys who doesn't have a Mopar but runs right up to the VIN or fender tag to see if a car is real. Although, my Cuda is a BS23N car I told him I didn't think it was a clone car even though it has a hemi in it now. I just replied: " Its a Cuda with a Hemi in it "

Its funny though even when it had the 383 in it how many people would check the VIN and the fender tag to see if it said " N "

My personal opinion is if it has any Mopar engine in it that its still a Mopar, no more no less.

I am one of those people who look at the Vin or tag, but I dont rush to it.  I like to check the car over first.  If its the real deal, cool.  If its a "clone" so what, big deal, its still a Mopar.  They're all good with me.   :2thumbs:

If you feel that way about it, talk to the person as if it was still the 383 and you don't know any better. Eventually they will realize that you are being very condescending and leave you alone about it.

If it's a BS car I would think it would be a recreation. My BH 440 6 car I think would be called a clone. I think a Tribute car would be more or less the same as a clone, but may come into play more if you made a 70 Barracuda convertible in to a Hemi Cuda convertible. My 2 cents.

What ever you decide to call it, It is COOL.

It looks like a Cuda with a Hemi in it to me.

Just out of curiosity, when I put a single four barrel on my old V code 440-6 car, did it become a recreation of a 440 Cuda??  :stirpot:

I do find it a bit "discouraging" for lack of a better word to go to a car show, and see EVERY Challenger is now an R/T
There was even a 69 Dart R/T around my way  :dupe:
When the minority becomes the majority there's nothing you can do but sit back and appreciate it as a Mopar, and that's the bottom line in my eyes I guess  :ylsuper:

Clone is completely the wrong car name......If you made a 70 challenger look like a 70 chevelle somehow that would be a clone......

Good comments....interesting too about putting the 4 bbl on the 440-6 car and the clone Chevelle into a Challenger.. I have to agree. It annoys me when people walk up and ask " is it real " I'm trying to get prepared on how to answer them or not answer them at all.

I think we had this discussion before and decided that there is no true clones and that is an exact reproduction of another.  Recreation sounds good.   :2thumbs:

I get asked this all the time. I say she's a "one off" cause everything else matches. But doesn't really matter cause most of those people don't understand anyway.  :eek7:   :eek4:

I think somebody on the board recently said that the rarest Challengers and Barracudas in the future were going to be the six cylinders.
