Original 4 bbl on a 70 Chally
« on: August 15, 2007 - 07:39:40 PM »
What would have been the original 4bbl carb on a 1970 L.A. built Challenger? The one with all the enviromental stuff.
Anybody have one?

Are you thinking of the carter AVS with the idle lean solenoid (I think that was what it was called).

That might be the one. Do you have numbers on it?

IF it was sold in california and has the emmissions stuff on it you are down to 3 carbs. If its a manual  its a Holley R4217A , if its an auto its R4218A (Holley) or 4734S (carter avs). Did you try talking to CODY. I would think he might have some insight.

Sorry, but I just found this thread...
I also have a JS23N0E and have had the same dilemma.  My car had some mid '70s Ford AVS on it when I got it, but otherwise is a survivor car.
I have no broadcast sheet, and I have looked "everywhere".....which is the basic problem in determining the exact carb.
My car has the N95 system, AC and is an automatic and the engine has the original orange paint and an SPD in December.
Does yours have any or all of that stuff?  Do you have the broadcast sheet?
I also did research and ended up with a Carter 4734S, but I'm still not absolutely sure my car didn't originally have the Holley.  I have gotten a lot of conflicting information about that, and without my broadcast sheet........
